76ers Are Undefeated, But It’s Not Why You Think
The Philadelphia 76ers are off to a surprising start this season. They’re undefeated through three games, but it’s not because of their superstar center Joel Embiid or veteran forward Paul George. Instead, a young backcourt is leading the charge and redefining how this team wins.
Tyrese Maxey Has Taken Over
Tyrese Maxey has been unstoppable. He dropped 40 points against the Celtics, 28 on the Hornets, and a massive 43 against the Magic. He’s scoring from everywhere, attacking the rim, hitting threes, and controlling the game like a seasoned leader.
While Embiid is still working his way back from multiple knee surgeries, Maxey looks fresh, fast, and fearless. He’s not waiting for anyone to hand him the spotlight, he’s taking it. The 76ers’ offense now runs through him, and the results speak for themselves.
The Rookie Rising Fast
Rookie V.J. Edgecombe, the third overall pick, has also made a huge impact. He scored 34 points against Boston, then followed with 15 and 26 in his next two games. His energy on both ends of the court has turned heads. Edgecombe’s athleticism and defense are already giving the 76ers a jolt of excitement every night.
Fans are beginning to see what the future could look like: Maxey and Edgecombe growing together as a new foundation in Philadelphia.
Embiid and George Still on Pause
Meanwhile, the stars everyone expected to carry this team haven’t been the ones driving success. Joel Embiid, coming off another major knee surgery, is averaging just 12 points on 40 percent shooting. He’s struggling to move as smoothly as he once did and is playing limited minutes as the team tries to protect his health.
Paul George hasn’t even touched the floor yet as he recovers from lingering issues and adjusts to a smaller role entering his 16th season.
A New Identity Emerging
Last season’s 24-win collapse taught the 76ers a hard lesson about relying too much on injured stars. This season feels different. Whether they stay undefeated in October or not, the story isn’t about Embiid or George, it’s about a shift happening right before our eyes.
Philadelphia’s future clearly belongs to Maxey and the young, fearless guards around him. The next era of 76ers basketball may have already begun.
