Bengals Bounce Back Big Against Dolphins 45-21 in Week 16 Showdown
The Cincinnati Bengals (4-10) traveled to Miami looking to wash away the bitter taste of their devastating shutout loss to Baltimore. Meanwhile, the Miami Dolphins (6-8) desperately needed a victory to keep their fading playoff dreams alive after dropping their previous game to Pittsburgh.
First Quarter: Trading Blows Early
The game started with fireworks as both teams showed they came to play. Joe Burrow, who had struggled mightily in that shutout loss, looked like a completely different quarterback. He found his favorite target Tee Higgins for a beautiful 35-yard connection that set up Cincinnati's first score. Burrow then fired a perfect 9-yard touchdown pass to Higgins in the corner of the end zone.
But Miami's explosive running back De'Von Achane had other plans! The speedy back took a handoff and raced 48 yards to the house, showing off the blazing speed that made him such a dangerous weapon. The first quarter ended tied 7-7, setting the stage for an exciting battle.
Second Quarter: Bengals Take Control
Cincinnati's offense started clicking on all cylinders in the second quarter. After a methodical drive, Burrow found running back Samaje Perine for a 4-yard touchdown plunge. The Bengals' passing attack was humming, with Ja'Marr Chase making spectacular catches all over the field.
Miami answered back when rookie Malik Washington punched in a 9-yard rushing touchdown, showing that the Dolphins had multiple weapons in their arsenal. At halftime, Cincinnati held a 17-14 lead, but the game was far from over.
Third Quarter: The Chase Brown Show
This is where the game truly turned into a Bengals showcase. Chase Brown, who had been searching for consistency all season, exploded for two rushing touchdowns in the third quarter. His first came on a 9-yard pass from Burrow, showing off his receiving skills. Then Brown bulldozed his way into the end zone from 12 yards out, displaying the power running that made him Cincinnati's lead back.
The Bengals defense also stepped up huge, forcing two interceptions from Quinn Ewers. These turnovers gave Cincinnati short fields to work with, and they took full advantage. By the end of the third quarter, the Bengals had stormed ahead 31-14.
Fourth Quarter: Sealing the Victory
Cincinnati kept pouring it on in the final frame. Mike Gesicki, who had been struggling for consistent production all season, hauled in a 17-yard touchdown pass from Burrow. The veteran tight end's celebration showed how much this score meant to him after a challenging year.
Miami managed one more touchdown when Jaylen Wright punched it in from 3 yards out, but it was too little, too late. The Bengals had already built an insurmountable lead.
Game-Changing Performances
Joe Burrow bounced back in spectacular fashion, throwing for 309 yards and 4 touchdowns while completing 25 of 32 passes. This was exactly the kind of performance Bengals fans had been hoping to see after his previous struggles.
Chase Brown stole the show with his complete game performance, rushing for 66 yards and a touchdown while adding 43 receiving yards and 2 receiving touchdowns. His 3 total touchdowns proved he could be the dynamic weapon Cincinnati needed.
Ja'Marr Chase continued his excellent season with 109 receiving yards on 9 catches, showing why he remains one of the league's most dangerous receivers.
Looking Ahead
This dominant 45-21 victory gives Cincinnati (5-10) something positive to build on heading into the offseason, even though their playoff hopes were already gone. The Bengals showed they still have plenty of talent when everything clicks together.
For Miami (6-9), this loss likely ends their playoff dreams for 2025. The Dolphins will need to regroup quickly as they prepare for their next challenge.
Both teams will look to finish the season strong in their final games, with pride and momentum for next year on the line.
