Wild Card Weekend: Bills Stun Jaguars in Instant Classic
The Buffalo Bills pulled off a dramatic 27–24 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Wild Card round. The game was tight all afternoon, but it exploded in the fourth quarter with four lead changes before Buffalo sealed it with a last-minute interception.
First Quarter: Defense Sets the Tone (Bills 3, Jaguars 0)
Both teams opened the game cautiously. Each offense traded punts as the defenses settled in. Midway through the quarter, Buffalo took advantage of an early Jaguars turnover. The Bills moved into range and kicked a field goal to grab a 3–0 lead. That score held through the end of the first quarter.
Second Quarter: Bills Strike, Jaguars Answer (Bills 10, Jaguars 7)
Buffalo found the end zone early in the second quarter. Quarterback Josh Allen powered in on a 1-yard rushing touchdown, giving the Bills a 10–0 lead.
Jacksonville finally responded. Trevor Lawrence led a touchdown drive that ended with a scoring pass to Brian Thomas Jr.. After a chaotic stretch that included a kickoff fumble recovered by the Jaguars, Buffalo still went into halftime ahead 10–7.
Third Quarter: Field Goals Only (Bills 13, Jaguars 10)
The third quarter was physical and low-scoring. Both teams managed just one field goal. Buffalo stayed narrowly in front 13–10, but Jacksonville’s running game began to gain momentum behind Travis Etienne Jr., setting up a wild finish.
Early Fourth Quarter: Jaguars Take Their First Lead (Jaguars 17, Bills 13)
Jacksonville finally grabbed its first lead of the game early in the fourth quarter. Lawrence threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Parker Washington, putting the Jaguars ahead 17–13.
The home crowd erupted, but the lead wouldn’t last long.
Late Fourth Quarter: Back-and-Forth Chaos (Bills 27, Jaguars 24)
Allen answered quickly, leading Buffalo down the field and throwing a 15-yard touchdown pass to Dalton Kincaid. Just like that, the Bills were back in front 20–17.
Jacksonville struck again. Lawrence led another touchdown drive and capped it with a 14-yard scoring pass to Etienne, giving the Jaguars a 24–20 lead with under five minutes to play.
Then came the moment of the game. Allen marched Buffalo 66 yards on a nine-play drive. On a crucial fourth down, he powered forward on a “tush push” sneak for 10 yards. With about a minute left, Allen scored on a 1-yard rushing touchdown, putting the Bills back on top 27–24.
The Final Play: Bills Defense Finishes It
Jacksonville had one last chance. On the first play of the drive, Lawrence’s pass was tipped by Tre’Davious White and intercepted by safety Cole Bishop. The interception sealed Buffalo’s first road playoff win in 33 years.
A Gritty Playoff Win
Allen finished with 273 passing yards, one passing touchdown, and two rushing scores, taking hit after hit while leading his team. Buffalo scored three touchdowns, two by Allen and one by Kincaid, while Jacksonville matched them with scores from Brian Thomas Jr., Parker Washington, and Etienne.
In the end, the Bills made one more play than the Jaguars, escaping with a thrilling 27–24 victory and moving on in the playoffs.
