Broncos Soar Past Struggling Bengals 28-3 in Mile High Masterpiece
The Denver Broncos and Cincinnati Bengals entered Week 4 only a game away from each other in the standings, but their paths couldn't have been more different. The Broncos were building on last season's remarkable turnaround under head coach Sean Payton, while the Bengals were desperately trying to stay afloat without their injured superstar quarterback Joe Burrow. What unfolded at Mile High Stadium was a complete domination by Denver, as they crushed Cincinnati 28-3 in a game that was never really close.
First Quarter: Early Statement
The first quarter belonged to the Broncos' defense and running game. Cincinnati managed to move the ball early, with backup quarterback Jake Browning connecting with Tee Higgins for a beautiful 19-yard completion down the left sideline. The Bengals capped off their opening drive with a 26-yard field goal by kicker McPherson, taking an early 3-0 lead.
But Denver answered quickly with their ground attack. Running back J.K. Dobbins, who joined the Broncos this season, began pounding the rock effectively. The drive culminated with Bo Nix showing off his dual-threat ability, scrambling six yards into the end zone for his first touchdown of the game. The extra point made it 7-3 Denver after one quarter.
Second Quarter: Broncos Take Control
The second quarter was where Denver truly seized control of the game. Bo Nix began finding his rhythm in the passing game, completing 29 of 42 passes for an impressive 326 yards. The young quarterback showed why the Broncos have such high hopes for him after his strong rookie finish last season.
Marvin Mims Jr. provided the fireworks with a spectacular 16-yard rushing touchdown, taking a handoff and racing to the end zone. This creative play-calling by Sean Payton extended Denver's lead to 14-3.
Late in the half, Nix connected with star receiver Courtland Sutton for a 20-yard touchdown pass with just 13 seconds remaining. Sutton, coming off a huge previous game with 118 receiving yards, continued his hot streak. The halftime score stood at 21-3, and the Bengals looked completely overwhelmed.
Second Half: Running Game Dominance
The third and fourth quarters became a showcase for Denver's balanced offensive attack. J.K. Dobbins was unstoppable, finishing with 101 rushing yards on 16 carries. His powerful running style perfectly complemented the Broncos' ball-control approach.
Rookie RJ Harvey also made his mark, adding 58 rushing yards and 40 receiving yards with four receptions. Harvey capped off the scoring with a 12-yard touchdown reception from Nix in the fourth quarter, showing the versatility that made him a second-round pick.
Meanwhile, Cincinnati's offense struggled mightily without their franchise quarterback. Jake Browning managed just 125 passing yards on 14 of 25 completions and was sacked three times. Star receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins were held to just 23 and 32 receiving yards respectively, far below their usual explosive standards.
Looking Ahead
This dominant victory moves Denver to 2-2 and shows they could be legitimate playoff contenders in the competitive AFC. Their combination of improved quarterback play from Nix, a powerful running game, and that elite defense makes them dangerous.
For Cincinnati, the loss drops them to 2-2 and extends their losing streak to two games. Without Burrow, this talented roster is struggling to find its identity. The Bengals desperately need their supporting cast to step up if they want to stay in playoff contention until their leader returns.
Both teams will look to bounce back next week as they continue their 2025 campaigns in what promises to be an exciting NFL season.
