Dodgers Outlast Blue Jays in 18-Inning Thriller to Take 2-1 Series Lead
The 2025 World Series delivered a game for the ages on Tuesday night as the Los Angeles Dodgers outlasted the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 in 18 innings — nearly seven hours of nonstop baseball drama. Freddie Freeman’s walk-off home run finally ended the marathon, giving the Dodgers a 2-1 series lead and leaving fans breathless after one of the longest and most intense games in World Series history.
Early Fireworks
The Dodgers jumped out to an early lead thanks to Teoscar Hernández’s solo home run in the second inning and Shohei Ohtani’s blast in the third. Ohtani was unstoppable all night, reaching base nine times, including two home runs and four intentional walks. His presence at the plate kept Toronto’s pitchers on edge from start to finish.
The Blue Jays fought back in the fourth inning when Alejandro Kirk launched a three-run homer to center field, helping Toronto take a 4-3 lead. But Los Angeles kept battling, with Freddie Freeman tying the game in the seventh inning on a clutch RBI single.
Deadlock Drama
In the ninth inning, the Blue Jays briefly went ahead 5-4 before the Dodgers answered immediately to tie it once again. From that point on, neither team scored for nine straight innings. Both lineups had multiple chances with runners on base but couldn’t deliver. Incredible defense, including a game-saving throw from Hernández, and gutsy pitching kept the game tied deep into the night.
Finally, in the bottom of the 18th, Freddie Freeman stepped up and crushed a solo home run to center field off Toronto reliever Brendon Little, ending one of the most exhausting and thrilling games ever played.
What’s Next
The Dodgers now lead the series 2-1, with all the momentum heading into Game 4. Shohei Ohtani is set to make his first career World Series start as a pitcher tonight, giving fans even more reason to tune in. After an almost seven-hour epic in Game 3, the stage is set for another unforgettable night of baseball in Los Angeles.
