Dolphins Soar Past Falcons 34-10 in Dominant Road Victory
The Miami Dolphins (1-6) traveled to Atlanta looking to turn around their struggling season against the Falcons (3-3), who were hoping to keep their playoff dreams alive. Both teams entered this Week 8 matchup desperate for a win, but it was the visiting Dolphins who would fly high in a stunning 34-10 victory.
First Quarter: Miami Strikes First
The game started with both offenses moving the ball but struggling to finish drives. Atlanta's Kirk Cousins, who had been benched earlier this season, got the start and immediately began targeting his favorite weapon, Kyle Pitts. The talented tight end caught several passes early, showing the chemistry that made him a top draft pick.
Miami answered with a methodical drive led by De'Von Achane, who has been the Dolphins' most reliable weapon all season. The speedy running back capped off a long drive by punching in a 3-yard touchdown run, giving Miami a 7-0 lead. Achane's ability to both run and catch passes out of the backfield proved problematic for Atlanta's defense all game long.
Atlanta managed to respond with a field goal from kicker Romo, making it 7-3 after one quarter. Cousins found Pitts twice on the drive, with the tight end hauling in 24 and 6-yard catches to move the Falcons into scoring position.
Second Quarter: Dolphins Double Up
The second quarter belonged to Miami's passing attack. Tua Tagovailoa, who had been struggling with turnovers and poor decision-making this season, looked like a completely different quarterback. He found his rhythm early and began picking apart Atlanta's secondary.
Atlanta added another field goal to cut the deficit to 7-6, but Miami had an answer. With just 18 seconds left in the half, Tagovailoa connected with Malik Washington for a 9-yard touchdown pass. Washington, thrust into a bigger role due to injuries, made the most of his opportunity by hauling in the crucial score. The Dolphins took a 14-6 lead into halftime.
Third Quarter: Waddle Breaks Free
The third quarter featured the play of the game when Jaylen Waddle, who had been quiet for most of the season, exploded for a spectacular 43-yard touchdown catch. Tagovailoa found his speedy receiver in stride, and Waddle did the rest, racing past Atlanta's secondary for six points. The touchdown extended Miami's lead to 21-6 and seemed to deflate the home crowd.
Bijan Robinson, Atlanta's talented running back, had a rough day and even lost a fumble that killed a promising drive. The former top-10 pick managed just 25 rushing yards on 9 carries, well below his usual production.
Fourth Quarter: Dolphins Seal the Deal
Miami put the game away early in the fourth quarter when Tagovailoa found rookie Ollie Gordon II for a 20-yard touchdown pass. Gordon, who had been struggling all season, finally found the end zone and gave the Dolphins a commanding 28-6 advantage.
Atlanta managed a late touchdown when Tyler Allgeier punched in a 6-yard run, but it was too little, too late. Miami added a field goal to reach the final score of 34-10.
Looking Ahead
This victory gives Miami hope that they can salvage something from their disappointing season. Tagovailoa's four-touchdown performance (205 yards, 20/26 completions) showed flashes of the quarterback who once looked promising. For Atlanta, the loss drops them to 3-4.
Both teams will look to build on this game as they prepare for their next opponents in Week 9.
