Giants Dominate Raiders 34-10 as Jaxson Dart Shines in Vegas
The New York Giants (2-13) traveled to Las Vegas to face the struggling Raiders (3-13) in a Week 17 matchup between two teams already eliminated from playoff contention. Both squads entered the game focused on developing young talent and building momentum for next season.
First Quarter: Giants Strike First
The game started with promise for both teams as they traded possessions early. The Giants showed their offensive potential when rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart connected with receiver Wan'Dale Robinson for key completions. Robinson, who has been the Giants' most reliable target this season, started building what would become a monster performance.
The Raiders responded with their own drive, led by veteran quarterback Geno Smith finding tight end Michael Mayer for crucial gains. Rookie sensation Ashton Jeanty, fresh off his two-touchdown performance against Houston, began working to establish the ground game.
The quarter's biggest moment came when a Giants linebacker intercepted Smith's pass and returned it 47 yards, setting up excellent field position. The Giants capitalized immediately as running back Devin Singletary punched in a 29-yard touchdown run, capping off the drive with a one-yard scoring plunge. New York led 7-0 after the first quarter.
Second Quarter: Offensive Fireworks
The Raiders answered quickly in the second quarter, marching down the field behind Smith's accurate passing to Mayer. However, they had to settle for a field goal, making it 7-3.
Dart then showcased why the Giants believe he's their quarterback of the future. The rookie led a beautiful drive down the field, connecting with receiver Darius Slayton for a spectacular 21-yard gain. Dart finished the drive himself, scrambling 12 yards into the end zone for his first rushing touchdown of the game. The Giants extended their lead to 14-3.
As the half wound down, the Giants struck again. A 32-yard field goal sent them into the locker room with a comfortable 17-3 advantage.
Third Quarter: Momentum Swings
The third quarter brought drama as both teams traded scores. The Raiders finally found the end zone when Smith connected with receiver Tyler Lockett for a four-yard touchdown pass, cutting the deficit to 17-10.
However, the Giants had an immediate answer in spectacular fashion. On the ensuing kickoff, defensive back Deon Banks returned the kick 95 yards for a touchdown! The electric return gave New York a 24-10 lead and deflated the Raiders' hopes of a comeback.
The Giants added another field goal to push their lead to 27-10 entering the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter: Giants Seal Victory
The fourth quarter belonged entirely to New York. A Giants safety intercepted Smith's pass and returned it for excellent field position. Dart methodically led his team down the field, finishing with his second rushing touchdown of the game from two yards out.
The final score read 34-10, a dominant victory for the Giants.
Star Performances
Wan'Dale Robinson was absolutely unstoppable, hauling in 11 catches for 113 yards. His performance showed why he's become Dart's favorite target. Dart completed 22 of 30 passes for 207 yards while adding 48 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.
For the Raiders, Jeanty managed 60 rushing yards despite the team's struggles, while Mayer caught nine passes for 89 yards.
Looking Ahead
This victory gives the Giants (3-13) something positive to build on as they continue their rebuilding process. The Raiders (2-14) will look to regroup and focus on developing their young talent like Jeanty.
Both teams will conclude their disappointing seasons in Week 18, hoping to end on positive notes before important offseason decisions.
