Rockies Outlast Diamondbacks in Coors Field Thriller
The Arizona Diamondbacks traveled to Coors Field to face the Colorado Rockies on Saturday, May 16. Although Arizona had dominated Colorado the previous day with a nine-to-one victory, this matchup told a completely different story. Eduardo Rodríguez took the mound for the Diamondbacks, while Tomoyuki Sugano pitched for the Rockies. Colorado came out swinging from the first inning, scoring two quick runs to jump ahead early. The Rockies' aggressive start put immediate pressure on Arizona's pitching staff. Despite the early setback, the Diamondbacks refused to quit and scratched out runs when they could. However, the Rockies' bats proved too powerful throughout the game. When the final out was recorded, Colorado had secured a four-to-two victory at home, improving their record to eighteen wins and twenty-eight losses. This loss dropped Arizona to twenty-one wins and twenty-three losses.
Early Rockies Lead Sets Tone for Victory
Colorado's bats came alive immediately when the game began. In the first inning, Rumfield singled to left field, allowing Castro to score from third base with an exit velocity of seventy-six miles per hour. Just moments later, Moniak delivered another single to center field, sending Doyle across the plate and giving the Rockies a commanding two-to-nothing lead. Arizona struck back in the second inning when Gurriel Jr. stole home, narrowing the gap to two-to-one. However, Colorado answered right back when McCarthy singled to left, allowing Karros to score with impressive power of ninety-four miles per hour off the bat. The Rockies extended their advantage to three-to-one, controlling the game's momentum completely. Arizona's pitching struggled to contain Colorado's offensive aggression. The early innings demonstrated that this game would be a slugfest, with both teams determined to score runs whenever possible.
Carroll's Double Ignites Diamondbacks Rally Attempt
As the game moved forward, Arizona's offense finally found its rhythm in the fifth inning. Carroll stepped up to the plate and delivered a thunderous double to right field with impressive exit velocity of one hundred seven miles per hour. The ball traveled an impressive three hundred ninety-one feet, soaring well beyond the infield and into the gap. Marte raced home from second base, cutting Colorado's lead to three-to-two. Arizona had momentum and hope that they could complete a comeback. Unfortunately, the Rockies' pitching tightened up for the remainder of the game. In the eighth inning, Colorado put the game away when Moniak was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Doyle scored, and the Rockies extended their advantage to four-to-two. Arizona could not recover from this blow. The Diamondbacks' comeback attempt fell short, and Colorado secured the victory at home.
