Arizona Sneaks Past San Francisco in Close Battle
The Arizona Diamondbacks came into Oracle Park looking to stay hot. They'd won five straight games and sat at 31-24, dominating the National League West. The Giants were struggling at 22-34, dropping three games in a row. Arizona had crushed San Francisco 6-2 just two nights before, but this Wednesday night would be different. The teams traded runs all game long. The final score read 3-2 Arizona, but you could feel the tension in every inning. Missing Nolan Arenado with groin tightness, the Diamondbacks had to dig deep. Michael Soroka took the mound for Arizona, ready to keep his team's winning ways alive.
Arraez Shocks Arizona, Then D-Backs Strike Back
San Francisco struck first in the third inning. Michael Soroka was throwing heat at 93-94 miles per hour, but Luis Arraez connected on a four-seam fastball. The ball shot into center field. Both Drew Gilbert and Willy Adames raced home. Just like that, the Giants led 2-0. But Arizona wasn't done yet. In the sixth inning, Adrian Del Castillo slapped a single to left field. Carroll immediately sprinted home. Then Ildemaro Vargas delivered the clutch swing—a sacrifice fly to right field that brought Perdomo sliding across the plate. Arizona tied it at 2-2. The game had turned into a pitcher's duel with both teams fighting for every run.
Perdomo's Seventh-Inning Fly Ball Delivers Arizona Victory
The seventh inning was all Arizona. Geraldo Perdomo stepped up to the plate with the game still tied at 2-2. Matt Gage threw an 86-mile-per-hour changeup right over the middle. Perdomo connected and lifted a sacrifice fly high into the left field sky. Tommy Troy was on second base and bolted for home the instant the ball was hit. He crossed the plate standing up. Arizona took a 3-2 lead and never looked back. Paul Sewald came out of the bullpen and shut down San Francisco in the ninth. The Diamondbacks held on to win 3-2. Arizona improved to 32-24 with their sixth straight victory. San Francisco fell to 22-35, their loss streak continuing. For Arizona, pitching depth and timely hitting kept them climbing.
