Yankees Dominate Orioles in Lopsided Rivalry Game
The Baltimore Orioles traveled to Yankee Stadium on Monday, May 4, hoping to bounce back from their previous loss. The New York Yankees had just defeated Baltimore 11-3 and were riding high with a four-game winning streak. Unfortunately for the Orioles, this game didn't go their way either. The Yankees dominated from start to finish, crushing the Orioles 12-1 in a lopsided affair. Shane Baz started for Baltimore while Cam Schlittler took the mound for New York. Although the Orioles managed ten hits, they couldn't string together the runs they needed. The Yankees' powerful lineup proved too much for Baltimore's pitching staff to handle, with New York's bats coming alive early and often throughout the night.
Yankees Strike Early; Judge Launches 416-Foot Blast
New York wasted no time taking control of the game. In the bottom of the first inning, Aaron Judge crushed a massive home run to right center field, traveling an impressive 416 feet. His hit came on a knuckle curve at 86 miles per hour, and Judge connected with an exit velocity of 111 miles per hour. Trent Grisham scored ahead of him, giving the Yankees a quick 2-0 lead. When you're facing a power hitter like Judge, hanging breaking balls can be dangerous. The ball soared high over the wall and the crowd roared with excitement. By the third inning, Cody Bellinger added a sacrifice fly to left field, pushing New York's advantage to 3-0. The Orioles' offense struggled early, while the Yankees' bats were firing on all cylinders from the opening pitch.
Yankees Explode in Sixth and Eighth Innings
The Orioles finally got on the board in the sixth inning when a walk allowed Beavers to score, cutting the deficit to 3-1. However, the Yankees answered immediately in their half of the sixth. Shane Baz threw wild pitches that allowed Domínguez to score and loaded the bases with runners. Then McMahon singled to center, and Caballero doubled to left, extending New York's lead to 6-1. When a pitcher struggles with control, it can give opponents free runs and momentum. The game got completely out of hand in the eighth inning when the Yankees scored six runs. Judge singled, Bellinger tripled, and Domínguez singled again, putting the game completely beyond reach at 12-1. Despite recording ten hits, Baltimore couldn't generate enough offense to stay competitive. The Orioles fell to 15-20 while the Yankees improved to 24-11.
