Baltimore's Bats Wake Up in Seattle
The Orioles came into the Pacific Northwest looking to bounce back after losing 3-0 the day before. Seattle hosted Baltimore at T-Mobile Park in a battle between two teams struggling to find their groove. Baltimore sat at 35-40. Seattle was 38-37. The final score: Orioles 5, Mariners 3. You could feel the shift in energy when Baltimore's lineup got rolling. Things started quietly, but wait until you see what happened in the third inning. Gunnar Henderson stepped up against George Kirby and connected on a 95-mile-per-hour fastball that rocketed over the right-center wall. The ball sailed 370 feet into the night sky. Alexander raced home ahead of him. Just like that, Baltimore jumped ahead 2-0. The Mariners answered back when Dominic Canzone drove a single through the middle, scoring Julio Rodriguez to make it 2-1.
Orioles Extend Lead in Middle Innings
Baltimore kept piling on the pressure in the middle innings. You could see the confidence building with every swing. In the sixth inning, Leody Taveras faced a 95-mile-per-hour sinker and smacked it deep into center field. The ball flew all the way to the wall and bounced off for a triple. Taveras slid into third base as Pete Alonso raced home. The score jumped to 3-1 Orioles. The next inning brought even more excitement. Taylor Ward grounded into what looked like a double play, but Jackson Holliday sprinted home from third before the ball reached first base. Alexander was ruled out at second, but Holliday's run counted. Baltimore pushed it to 4-1. The Orioles' pitching staff was rock solid. Kyle Bradish threw seven and two-thirds innings, striking out twelve batters while giving up just one run.
Holliday Crushes Late Homer as Orioles Hold On
The ninth inning brought one final Baltimore explosion. Jackson Holliday faced reliever Michael Rucker and launched a fastball into center field. The ball climbed high into the night and landed in the bleachers for a solo home run. Holliday's blast sailed 399 feet and made it 5-1 Orioles. You thought the game was done, but Seattle wasn't finished yet. Ryan Helsley took over on the mound for Baltimore. Dominic Canzone stepped in and ripped a shot to right field for a home run. Cole Young followed with another blast to right, also going yard. Seattle cut it to 5-3, but it was too little too late. Baltimore held on for the win and improved to 36-40. Seattle fell to 38-38. The Orioles grabbed their second straight victory and kept their playoff hopes alive on the road.
