Red Sox Explode in the Third Inning
The Boston Red Sox visited Target Field on Wednesday to face the Minnesota Twins in a matchup between two teams with different hopes. The Red Sox came in looking to bounce back after losing the previous game six to nothing. Starting pitcher Connelly Early took the mound for Boston, while Simeon Woods Richardson started for Minnesota. Early in the game, a Twins player named Martin connected with a fastball traveling ninety-six miles per hour and sent it four hundred six feet over the left field wall. Minnesota jumped ahead one to nothing. However, the Red Sox were just getting started. They would soon put together an incredible offensive explosion that changed everything about this game.
Boston's Big Third and Fifth Inning Rally
In the third inning, the Red Sox offense came alive with incredible hitting. A play where Masataka Yoshida reached on a fielder's choice scoring two runs cut the Twins' lead in half. Then Story stepped up and crushed a curveball traveling eighty miles per hour an incredible four hundred eleven feet into left center field. That home run brought in Yoshida and Rafaela, giving Boston a five to one advantage. In the fifth inning, Boston stayed aggressive. Monasterio doubled down the middle, scoring Duran. Then Wong executed a perfect sacrifice bunt, moving Monasterio to third and allowing him to score. The Red Sox kept pushing forward with each at-bat, building a seven to one lead heading into the later innings.
Red Sox Finish Strong Despite Late Rally
Boston's bats stayed hot in the sixth inning when Story doubled again, this time to right field, scoring both Anthony and Rafaela to extend the lead to nine to one. The Red Sox had built an enormous cushion, and their pitching held firm through most of the game. However, Minnesota didn't go down quietly in the ninth inning. Lee singled to left, bringing Gray home and making it nine to two. Then Kreidler launched a fastball ninety-three miles per hour four hundred eighty-five feet over the left field wall, scoring three runs total and cutting the final margin to nine to five. Despite the Twins' late comeback attempt, Boston held on for the victory, improving to seven wins and eleven losses.
