Cubs Come to Play, Cardinals Struggle Early
The Chicago Cubs rolled into Busch Stadium looking to bounce back hard. The night before, they'd lost 5–6 to the Cardinals in a tight game. Now they wanted revenge. St. Louis came in at 30–26, desperate to climb back into contention. Chicago sat at 32–27 and ready to prove they belonged. Ben Brown took the mound for the Cubs, fire in his eyes. The Cardinals' bats looked lost right from the start. Hits were hard to find. Runs even harder. By game's end, Chicago's powerful lineup would dominate the Cardinals 6–1 in dominant fashion.

Pete Crow-Armstrong was a man on a mission. In the fourth inning, Michael Busch singled to center field, and Crow-Armstrong sprinted home. One-zero Cubs. The Cardinals answered right back when Alec Burleson singled to right field, scoring JJ Wetherholt. Tied at one. But Chicago kept pushing. In the sixth, Nico Hoerner ripped a single to right, and Miguel Amaya raced across home plate. Busch followed with a sacrifice fly, bringing another run home. Three-one, Cubs ahead. Crow-Armstrong was everywhere, flying through the outfield, making every catch look easy. His speed and energy lifted his whole team up with each play he made.
Crow-Armstrong's Blast Puts Game Away in Late Innings
The eighth inning belonged to Pete Crow-Armstrong. Gordon Graceffo threw a fastball at 96 miles per hour right down the middle. Crow-Armstrong connected with a thunderous crack. The ball rocketed toward right field, climbing and climbing, then soared over the wall. A massive 444-foot home run. Four-one Cubs, and the Cardinals were finished. In the ninth, chaos erupted. Wild pitches flew everywhere from Matt Pushard. Runners scrambled. The bases turned into a highway. Happ scored on a wild pitch. Crow-Armstrong singled to center again, scoring Suzuki. Six-one final. The Cubs' lineup was unstoppable. Chicago improved to 33–27. St. Louis fell to 30–27. The Cubs seized momentum heading forward.
