Rangers Dominate Cubs in Saturday Matchup
The Chicago Cubs traveled to face the Texas Rangers on Saturday, May 9, looking to build on their strong 27-13 record. Meanwhile, the Rangers came in with a 18-21 record after losing to Chicago just the day before. Edward Cabrera took the mound for the Cubs while Jack Leiter started for Texas. From the opening pitch, things didn't go Chicago's way. The Rangers' bats came alive early, scoring two runs in the second inning to jump ahead. By game's end, Texas dominated the Cubs completely, winning 6-0. Chicago managed only four hits while the Rangers collected nine, showing the clear difference in offensive firepower that Saturday afternoon. This loss marked a tough turnaround for the Cubs after their impressive 7-1 victory the previous day.
Rangers Score Early and Often Against Cubs
Jung started the offensive explosion for the Rangers in the bottom of the second inning. His powerful home run soared over the right-center field wall, traveling 389 feet off a 96-mph fastball. The crowd erupted as Jung rounded the bases, giving Texas an early 1-0 lead. Not done yet, the Rangers added another run in that same inning when Osuna singled to left field, scoring Carter and extending the lead to 2-0. The Cubs' pitching struggled to contain the Rangers' lineup. By the fourth inning, Pederson doubled to left, bringing in another run, and Osuna added another single to score Pederson. Texas now led 4-0, and the game seemed completely out of reach for Chicago's offense.
Rangers Add Runs Late to Finish Strong
The Rangers kept their scoring going into the fifth inning when Foscue launched a home run over the left field wall. His powerful swing sent the ball 358 feet, and he crossed home plate to make it 5-0. Chicago's pitching had completely fallen apart by this point. In the sixth inning, Higashioka added one more single to left field, scoring Jung and putting the final score at 6-0. The Cubs' bats simply couldn't respond, finishing with no runs across all nine innings. Texas showcased their offensive strength, collecting nine hits compared to Chicago's four. This dominating performance gave the Rangers their winning streak, while the Cubs suffered their first loss after winning nine of their previous ten games.
