Royals Win Pitching Duel Against Guardians
The Kansas City Royals hosted the Cleveland Guardians at home on Tuesday, May 5, in a tense early-season matchup. Gavin Williams took the mound for Cleveland while the Royals started Stephen Kolek. Although Cleveland entered the game looking to build on their solid pitching rotation, they faced a tough Kansas City team riding a five-game winning streak. The Royals struck first with two quick runs in the first inning when Salvador Perez singled to center, scoring two runners. However, the Guardians answered back strong in the fourth inning, keeping the game competitive throughout. By the final out, Kansas City pulled away to win 5-3, improving to seventeen wins and nineteen losses on the season.
Guardians Mount Fourth-Inning Rally Behind Hoskins
Cleveland got back into the game during the fourth inning when Rhys Hoskins blasted a three-run home run, launching a ninety-eight mile-per-hour fastball three hundred forty-three feet into left field. This powerful swing gave the Guardians a 3-2 lead, showcasing the team's offensive capability despite missing several injured players. The momentum shifted quickly, though, because Kansas City answered immediately in the bottom of the same inning. Mike Massey crushed a home run to right field, traveling three hundred ninety-two feet with an exit velocity of one hundred three miles per hour, putting runners across the plate and regaining the Royals' lead at 4-3. Both teams traded big moments early, making this a back-and-forth battle.
Collins Adds Insurance Run As Royals Secure Victory
In the sixth inning, the Royals added an insurance run when DaRon Collins homered to right-center field, traveling three hundred eighty-two feet and extending Kansas City's lead to 5-3. This solo shot came with two outs and gave the Royals crucial breathing room heading into the final innings. Cleveland couldn't mount another comeback despite their earlier resilience in the fourth inning. The Guardians managed only four hits throughout the entire game while Kansas City's pitching staff held firm when it mattered most. Although Cleveland's rotation features talented arms like Gavin Williams and Tanner Bibee, they simply couldn't find enough offense today. Kansas City's victory extended their winning streak to five games.
