Brewers Strike Fast Against Cold Guardians Bats
The Cleveland Guardians rolled into Milwaukee looking for answers. They'd lost the night before, 2-1, and their bats had been ice cold lately. The Brewers, sitting pretty at 44-26, were riding a two-game winning streak at home. Cleveland was without superstar Jose Ramirez, who had surgery on his hand and wouldn't play for weeks. Milwaukee came out swinging immediately. Christian Yelich crushed the first pitch he saw—a curve ball at 82 mph—over the left-center wall for an instant 1-0 lead. The Guardians' starter Gavin Williams was in trouble fast. Sal Frelick followed with a double to center, scoring two more runs. Just like that, the Brewers had 3 runs and Cleveland hadn't even recorded an out yet. The game felt over before it started.
Schneemann's Blast Cuts Into Milwaukee's Lead
By the fourth inning, the Brewers had piled on two more runs. The score sat at 5-0 Milwaukee and Cleveland's pitching was crumbling. Then something changed. Daniel Schneemann stepped up against Brewers starter Brandon Sproat. The Cleveland slugger was hungry for runs. Sproat delivered a curve ball at 84 mph and Schneemann didn't miss. The ball rocketed off his bat toward right field—386 feet into the bleachers. Suddenly it was 4-5, and Schneemann had brought three teammates home with one swing. The Guardians weren't dead yet. But Jackson Chourio answered right back for Milwaukee with his own home run to right, sending the Brewers to 7-4. Williams was gone. Cleveland needed a different game plan now, and fast.
Brewers Close Out Guardians In Eighth Inning
The game stayed close heading into the eighth. Milwaukee led 7-4 and Cleveland still had hope. But the Brewers had other plans. Relief pitcher Will Dion took over for Cleveland and couldn't find the zone. Andrew Vaughn doubled to left field, and Contreras scored to make it 8-4. Cooper Pratt followed with a single to right, and Frelick raced home with another run. Milwaukee's offense was relentless. Pratt's hit made it 9-4 Brewers, and that would be the final score. Cleveland couldn't mount a comeback. The Brewers improved to 45-26 with the win. The Guardians fell to 39-35 and stayed struggling. Milwaukee's depth and power at the plate proved too strong for a Guardians team missing key pieces.
