The Colorado Rockies rolled into Arizona on Sunday sitting at 20-34. They'd lost two straight and needed a win badly. The Diamondbacks sat at 28-24 with momentum on their side. Arizona had won two straight games. Colorado had taken game one of this series on Saturday, winning 3-2. Now they wanted back-to-back victories against a hot Arizona team. The Rockies were missing key players like Brenton Doyle, who was hurt with an oblique injury. Pitcher Michael Lorenzen took the mound for Colorado, ready to battle against Arizona's lineup. The Diamondbacks countered with Zac Gallen on the bump. Both teams knew this game mattered in the playoff race. Arizona's home field at their stadium gave them a huge edge. The Rockies needed to fight hard for a road victory. This game would tell us a lot about where both teams were heading.
Arizona Explodes Early Against Colorado Pitching

The Rockies couldn't stay quiet for long. In the fourth inning, Troy Johnston singled to right. Hunter Goodman sprinted home to make it 3-1. Ezequiel Tovar grounded out but Rumfield scored. Now it was 3-2. Colorado was fighting back. Ketel Marte answered with a massive home run. The ball blasted 424 feet to right field. Tim Tawa also scored. Arizona pulled back ahead 5-2.
Rockies Claw Back Toward the Finish
Colorado kept chasing in the sixth inning. Sterlin Thompson grounded out to first base, and Troy Johnston raced home to score. The Rockies trailed 5-3 now. The game was still wide open. In the eighth inning, TJ Rumfield stepped into the box against Brandon Pfaadt. The pitcher threw a 93 mph sinker. Rumfield connected hard. The ball rocketed to left center field and soared over the wall. Two-run homer! Rumfield's blast made it 5-4. The Rockies were just one run away. But Arizona held firm. Paul Sewald came on for the save. He struck out one batter and kept Colorado at bay. The Diamondbacks won 5-4. Arizona improved to 28-24 and stayed hot at home. The Rockies fell to 20-35 after the loss. Colorado still fought hard on the road but came up short.
