Rockies Strike First in Colorado's Road Trip
The Colorado Rockies showed up hungry on Tuesday night at Angel Stadium in Los Angeles. They were riding a one-game winning streak and ready to fight hard against the Angels. Right away, in the first inning, the Rockies struck. Troy Johnston singled to center field, and Tyler Freeman raced home to score. Colorado led 1-0 before the Angels even stepped up to bat. Then in the third inning, Jake McCarthy launched a fastball deep to center field. The ball rocketed 397 feet through the air. McCarthy's solo home run made it 2-0 Rockies. Colorado's young lineup was heating up fast, and their pitching staff had to protect this early lead against a dangerous Angels lineup missing their star shortstop Zach Neto.
Angels Explode Back with Siri's Grand Slam
The Angels refused to stay down. In the third inning, Kyle Freeland was throwing hard, but Los Angeles caught up quick. Jo Adell singled to left field, and Donovan Walton scored to make it 2-1. But that wasn't enough. The very next batter, Jose Siri, stepped up to the plate. Freeland delivered an 85-mile-per-hour cutter, and Siri crushed it into left-center field. The ball soared 390 feet as four runs crossed home plate. Siri's grand slam gave the Angels a 5-2 lead in an instant. The game had flipped completely. Colorado's early advantage disappeared, and now the Angels were in control. The two teams kept swapping blows all night long, each inning bringing new drama and excitement.
Goodman Puts Rockies Over the Top in Eighth
The game stayed tight as the innings rolled by. Then came the eighth inning, and the Rockies took over completely. Kyle Karros doubled to left field, driving in Sterlin Thompson to tie the game at 3-3. Tyler Freeman singled right after, scoring Karros to give Colorado the lead again, 4-3. But wait, it got even better. Hunter Goodman stepped up and crushed a fastball 384 feet to left field. McCarthy and Freeman both scored on that blast. Colorado suddenly led 8-6 and had the momentum back. The Angels scratched one back in their half of the eighth when Jorge Soler tripled and two runners scored to tie it 8-8. In the ninth inning, a sacrifice fly by TJ Rumfield scored Karros with the winning run, giving Colorado a thrilling 9-8 victory.
