The Dodgers Strike First at Home
The Colorado Rockies came to Dodger Stadium looking to bounce back. They'd just lost big the night before. The Dodgers had won their last three games and wanted to keep rolling. You could feel the energy in the stadium from the start. In the third inning, Tanner Gordon threw a fastball to Enrique Hernandez. The ball jumped off the bat and rocketed into left field for a double. Hyeseong Kim raced home from second base. The Dodgers were up 1-0. Colorado's starter Gordon kept fighting though. He struck out eight batters through five innings and only let one run score early. The game stayed tight.
Rockies Fire Back, Then Dodgers Explode
Willi Castro answered for Colorado in the fourth inning. He lined a single to right field that scored Freddie Freeman from second base. The game was tied at 1-1. Then Ezequiel Tovar came up and launched a sacrifice fly to left. Troy Johnston scored from third. The Rockies were ahead 2-1. But the Dodgers were just getting started. In the seventh inning, Tovar blasted a fastball deep to center field. The ball soared 431 feet and disappeared over the wall. That was 3-1, Colorado. Then the Dodgers exploded. They scored four straight runs without even hitting the ball hard. Ohtani grounded into a force out that scored Will Smith. Mookie Betts hit a sacrifice fly. Freddie Freeman doubled. Andy Pages singled. Just like that, the Dodgers led 5-3.
The Dodgers Hold on for the Victory
The Dodgers offense had done the job. Emmet Sheehan was solid for Los Angeles, pitching six innings and giving up just two runs. Kyle Hurt came in and earned the win. Blake Treinen closed it out and got the save. The Colorado bullpen couldn't stop the bleeding. Juan Mejia, Brennan Bernardino, and Jaden Hill all gave up runs. Gordon had pitched well early, but the relief pitchers couldn't hold the lead. When the final out was made, the Dodgers had won 5-3. The Rockies fell to 20-35. Los Angeles improved to 34-20 and kept their winning streak alive. The Dodgers stayed in control. The Rockies went back to the bus knowing they'd come close but couldn't finish the job.
