Tigers Strike First, But Orioles Answer Back
The Tigers came to Baltimore looking to bounce back after losing 7-4 the night before. You could feel the energy when Detroit jumped ahead in the fourth inning. Matt Vierling crushed a line drive to center field, and McGonigle sprinted home with the first run. Moments later, Colt Keith lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, and Dingler scored to make it 2-0. The Tigers were rolling early behind starter Framber Valdez, who was throwing heat on the mound. But the Orioles weren't going away quietly. In the sixth inning, Gunnar Henderson stepped up and launched a monster home run to right—a towering blast that traveled 368 feet. The crowd roared as the ball disappeared over the wall. Baltimore had answered, cutting Detroit's lead to 2-1 and keeping the game tight.
Tigers Add One, But Orioles Take Control
Detroit wasn't done yet. In the eighth inning, Spencer Torkelson drove an infield single to first base, and Dingler scored to extend the Tigers' lead to 3-1. The Tiger bats were putting up a fight, and Vierling was hitting like a machine—he finished 3-for-4 at the plate. But then the Orioles woke up their own offense. In the bottom of the eighth, Taylor Ward singled sharply to center, and Jeremiah Jackson raced home to make it 3-2. The game was anybody's to win at that point. The tension was building as both teams pushed for every run. Detroit's pitching held strong through six innings of work from Valdez, but the bullpen would need to step up in the late innings to protect the lead. The score was close. One swing could change everything.
Cowser's Blast Wins It For Baltimore
The ninth inning changed everything. Kenley Jansen took the mound for Detroit trying to shut the door. But Colton Cowser had other plans. The Orioles slugger stepped into the box with two outs and connected on a sinker that rocketed deep to center field. The ball soared 440 feet—a towering bomb that cleared the wall in a hurry. Two runs scored ahead of Cowser on the bases, and suddenly the Orioles led 5-3. The Tigers had no answer in their final at-bat. Baltimore walked away with a 5-3 victory at home. The Orioles improved to 23-30 with this crucial win. Detroit dropped to 21-33 after the loss. The game showed both teams fighting hard, but Cowser's late-inning heroics proved to be the difference. One swing. One moment. That's baseball.
