Game overview: Twins beat Tigers 4–2
The Minnesota Twins hosted the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday, April 7, at their home stadium. Minnesota won 4–2 in a game that turned in the middle innings. Both teams entered wanting to win early in the season, and the crowd saw pitching duels before runs came. Detroit started Tarik Skubal on the mound for the Tigers while Minnesota used Taj Bradley to begin for the Twins. The score stayed close until the fifth inning, when the Twins scored four runs. That big inning gave Minnesota a lead they held, although Detroit fought back late with two runs.
Early game and big fifth inning
Early innings had strong pitching and no runs. Both starters kept hitters quiet while each team looked for a spark. In the bottom of the fifth, Minnesota broke through with three big hits. Keaschall singled to center and Byron Buxton scored, making it 1–0. After that, Royce Lewis hit a play where Gilberto Celestino came in with a double and two runs scored on a Jeffers double to right, pushing the score to 3–0. Then, Bell doubled to left and Jeffers scored to make it 4–0. That sequence showed how one inning can change a game's balance.
Late comeback attempt and final moments
Detroit tried to rally in the seventh and ninth innings, bringing the game closer. In the top of the seventh, Conner McGonigle singled to left and Spencer Torkelson scored, making it 4–1. That hit gave Detroit hope because it came with two outs and runners in scoring position. In the ninth, McGonigle struck again with a double that scored Javier Báez and made the score 4–2. Despite the late push, Minnesota held on and finished the game 4–2. The Twins earned the win and improved their record, while the Tigers' comeback fell just short.
