The Astros and Reds Meet in Cincinnati
The Houston Astros rolled into Cincinnati on Friday, May 8th, ready to bounce back. They had lost their previous game badly to the Dodgers, getting crushed 12-2. Cincinnati's Reds were hoping for better luck too, since they'd fallen to the Cubs 8-3 just before this matchup. Mike Burrows took the mound for Houston, while Nick Lodolo pitched for the home team Reds. What happened next was unforgettable. The Astros came out swinging and never stopped. By game's end, Houston dominated with a stunning 10-0 shutout victory. The Reds couldn't manage a single run, managing just five hits total against the Astros' powerful offense. It was a complete performance from start to finish for the visiting team.
Early Power Strikes Give Houston Control
The Astros wasted no time taking charge. In the second inning, Dezenzo crushed a home run over the right field wall, sending the ball 359 feet into the air with tremendous force. His exit velocity blazed at 100 miles per hour off his bat. Matthews scored on that play, giving Houston a quick 2-0 lead. Four innings later, things got worse for Cincinnati. Alvarez stepped up and launched a massive shot to right-center field that traveled 407 feet, the longest hit of the night. His exit velocity of 116 miles per hour showed his raw power. That home run scored Altuve as well, pushing Houston's advantage to 4-0. The Astros were in complete control, and the Reds couldn't find an answer on offense or defense.
Astros Explosive Ninth Inning Seals Dominant Win
Houston saved the best for last with an incredible ninth-inning explosion. Cole stepped to the plate with runners on second and third, and he delivered a go-ahead three-run home run that soared 376 feet. His exit velocity of 102 miles per hour showed his power. The home run made it 8-0, and the Reds were completely overwhelmed. Things got even worse for Cincinnati as Vázquez followed with another home run, traveling 385 feet for his own blast. Then Whitcomb singled to right field, scoring Allen and making the final score 10-0. The Astros had absolutely dismantled the Reds. This dominant victory improved Houston's record and showed their offensive potential despite injuries affecting their pitching rotation.
