Astros vs Mariners Recap: Seattle erupts for 9-6 win

Saturday brought the Houston Astros to T-Mobile Park in Seattle to face the Mariners. The Astros hoped their new rotation pieces would settle in, while Seattle leaned on its deep starting staff. The final score was Seattle 9, Houston 6 after a game with big swings and wild moments. Early trouble came for Houston when Tatsuya Imai’s wild pitch set the tone in the first inning. The Mariners built a lead, but Houston answered with a three-run double in the second. As the game moved forward, big homers and wild pitches shaped the comeback attempts and the final outcome.

The game opened quickly when Imai’s wild pitch let Crawford score in the bottom of the first. A hit by pitch then drove in Raleigh and another groundout pushed a run across, so Seattle led 3-0 after one. Houston answered in the top of the second with Ve1zquez delivering a two-run double that scored Correa and Paredes, and Walker also scored to tie the game at three. That three-run gap closed the early deficit and gave Houston hope, although the Mariners still had chances. Pitching and small ball traded blows while both teams tried to take control early in the afternoon.

The turning point came in the fifth when Arozarena crushed a two-run homer that landed 426 feet away and put Seattle ahead 5-3. Later, in the seventh the Mariners extended the lead with a run-scoring double by Canzone and two wild pitches by France that added runs. Crawfords single in that inning made it 8-3, and Raleighs groundout pushed the ninth run across. Houston hit a dramatic three-run homer in the eighth by Alvarez, cutting the gap to 9-6, but Seattle held on to win. The result left Seattle 5-9 and Houston 6-8 after the game.
