Game overview: Royals at Guardians, final score
Wednesday night in Cleveland, the Guardians hosted the Kansas City Royals at Progressive Field. The Guardians won convincingly, 10–2, and they did most of their damage early. Both teams started with clear goals: Cleveland wanted strong pitching and big hits, while Kansas City hoped its pitching depth would keep the game close. The first two innings set the tone when Cleveland scored four runs quickly. Although Kansas City answered with two doubles later, Cleveland kept piling on runs. By the eighth inning the Guardians exploded and sealed a big victory, leaving Kansas City with questions to fix.
Early scoring and middle innings momentum
Cleveland struck fast in the first inning and built an early lead. With two outs, DeLauter doubled to center and both Dominic Fry and José Ramírez scored, making it 2–0. Later in that same inning, Rhys Hoskins doubled and Joey DeLauter scored, stretching the lead to 3–0. In the second, Ramírez doubled again and Steven Kwan scored to make it 4–0. Kansas City fought back in the fourth when Michael Witt Jr. doubled, bringing in Garrett Garcia for their first run. These early plays gave Cleveland momentum while Kansas City showed some resilience with those two doubles.
Big eighth inning and game finish
The biggest moment came in the eighth inning when Cleveland broke the game open. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Rocchio singled to right and Brito scored. Then Andrés Martínez swung and the ball soared over the right-center wall. The home run cleared the bases and scored four runs, making the score 10–2. That long swing finished the game as a contest because Kansas City had no answer after that. The Guardians improved to 8–5, while the Royals fell to 5–7 and still look for answers on the road and at home.
