Cardinals Edge Royals in Low-Scoring Battle
The Kansas City Royals visited St. Louis on Saturday, May 16, ready for a tough matchup. Noah Cameron started on the mound for the Royals, while Kyle Leahy took the ball for the Cardinals at home. Both teams came into the game with strong pitching staffs, though Kansas City's bullpen faced challenges from recent injuries. Carlos Estévez, the team's reliable closer, was sidelined with a strain. Despite these setbacks, the Royals competed hard throughout the contest. The Cardinals proved too much in the end, winning the tight battle four to two. This marked another tough loss for Kansas City, extending their recent struggles on the road.
Cardinals Score Early, Build Lead in Fifth
In the bottom of the first inning, the Cardinals struck fast. Burleson launched a sacrifice fly to right field that brought Herrera home, giving St. Louis a one-nothing lead. The ball soared high at ninety-seven miles per hour, traveling three hundred nine feet through the air. Kansas City fought back in the fifth when Pasquantino singled to center, scoring Garcia and tying the game at one. However, the Cardinals answered immediately. Scott II grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Saggese, then Winn smashed a sacrifice fly to center, driving in Church. Suddenly, St. Louis led three to one, and momentum had completely shifted toward the home team.
Late Scoring and Final Push Cannot Overcome Deficit
The Cardinals added one more run in the eighth inning when Burleson singled to left field. A throwing error by the Royals' catcher DĂaz allowed Winn to score, pushing St. Louis ahead four to one. The Royals refused to quit, though. In the top of the ninth inning, Caglianone smashed a home run that traveled an impressive four hundred twenty-eight feet to right field. His bat speed generated one hundred thirteen miles per hour exit velocity, providing a much-needed spark for Kansas City. Unfortunately, the solo shot only made it four to two, which was not enough to overcome the deficit. The Cardinals held on for the victory, while the Royals' recent struggles continued. Kansas City faced an uphill battle with several key players recovering from injuries.
