Angels and White Sox Battle in Chicago
The Los Angeles Angels traveled to Chicago on Monday to face the White Sox in a season game that would test both young rosters. Los Angeles came in looking to bounce back after losing to the Royals on Sunday, while Chicago tried to recover from a narrow defeat against the Nationals the day before. The Angels entered with a 12-17 record, struggling on the road after a three-game losing streak. The White Sox sat at 11-17, also dealing with recent losses. However, both teams showed they could score, creating excitement for what would become a high-scoring matchup. Although the Angels struck first, neither team could have predicted the explosive seventh inning ahead.
Early Angels Advantage and Seventh Inning Fireworks
The Angels grabbed an early lead when Soler hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning, scoring Trout and giving Los Angeles a 1-0 advantage. During the second inning, the Angels extended their lead with back-to-back scoring plays. Teodosio doubled to left, driving in Schanuel, and then Neto singled to score d'Arnaud, pushing the Angels to 3-0. In the fourth inning, Grissom added another sacrifice fly, making it 4-0 for Los Angeles. The White Sox finally got on the board in the fifth when Benintendi grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Peters. Although the Angels maintained their four-run lead into the seventh inning, the White Sox were preparing to explode offensively.
White Sox Seventh Inning Rally Seals Victory
The seventh inning became unforgettable as the White Sox mounted an incredible comeback. After Soler homered for the Angels to make it 5-1, Chicago exploded with seven runs in their half of the inning. Peters singled, then Benintendi doubled to score two runners, tying the game at 5-4. Murakami's three-run homer rocketed 382 feet over right-center field, giving Chicago a 7-5 lead. Vargas followed with a solo home run traveling 401 feet to left field, extending the White Sox advantage to 8-5. Although the Angels scored two more runs in the ninth inning when Soler and Schanuel drove in runs, Chicago held on for the 8-7 victory. When you witness a turnaround like that, you understand why baseball captivates so many fans.
