Dodgers Strike First in San Diego
The Dodgers landed in San Diego hungry for another win. After beating the Padres 5-4 the night before, Los Angeles brought their best bats to Petco Park. The Padres had their own plans. San Diego's Randy Vasquez took the mound ready to shut down the Dodgers' powerful lineup. But Shohei Ohtani had other ideas. On the very first pitch he saw, Ohtani crushed a fastball deep to center field. The ball rocketed 405 feet over the wall before anyone could blink. One swing. One pitch. One run. The Dodgers were up 1-0 before the Padres could even warm up their bats. It was a statement. Ohtani showed San Diego exactly what they were dealing with. The Padres' pitcher was in trouble from the start.
Dodgers Add Runs in the Middle Innings
The Dodgers kept rolling. In the second inning, Teoscar Hernández stepped up with a chance to add more. He didn't hit it far, but he hit it smart. A sacrifice fly to right field scored Max Muncy from third base. That made it 2-0 Dodgers. The game stayed tight until the fifth inning arrived. Kyle Tucker came to bat with runners in scoring position. The Padres brought in Wandy Peralta to try to stop the bleeding. Tucker fought off some tough pitches, including a 97-mile-per-hour fastball that whizzed by him. Then he got his pitch. Tucker lined a single to right field that scored Ohtani and moved Freddie Freeman to third. The Dodgers were now up 3-0. Los Angeles' bats were singing in the California sun. San Diego's pitchers couldn't find their way out of trouble.
Hernández Crushes Final Blow Late
The game moved into the ninth inning with the Dodgers leading 3-0. The Padres needed something big. Ron Marinaccio pitched for San Diego, trying to keep the Dodgers off the board one more time. Teoscar Hernández stepped into the box with fire in his eyes. He'd already driven in runs with his sacrifice fly. Now he wanted more. Marinaccio threw a changeup at 80 miles per hour. Hernández connected hard. The ball flew to left-center field and kept going. It sailed 406 feet over the wall. The crowd watched as it landed. That made it 4-0 Dodgers. The game was over. Los Angeles had dominated San Diego from start to finish. The Dodgers improved to 32-19. The Padres fell to 29-21. Ohtani picked up the win on the mound too. The Dodgers' pitching and hitting showed why they're so dangerous.
