Marlins Strike Early Against Twins
The Miami Marlins traveled to Minnesota to face the Twins on Wednesday, May 13, looking for a strong performance after losing the previous game 3-0. However, this time the Marlins came out swinging from the first inning. Lopez reached on an infield single, scoring Edwards to give Miami an early lead. Moments later, Norby grounded into a double play, but Hicks scored on the play, pushing the Marlins ahead 2-0. Minnesota answered back when Buxton crushed a home run over the left field wall, traveling 382 feet with an exit velocity of 108 mph. Despite the Twins' quick response, Miami's aggressive start set the tone for what would become a dominant offensive performance throughout the game.
Caissie's Two-Run Blast Extends Miami's Lead
In the second inning, Miami continued its offensive onslaught when Caissie stepped up to the plate with a runner on base. He connected with a splitter pitch and launched a two-run home run into left-center field, traveling 400 feet. That blast pushed the Marlins' lead to 4-1. The Twins fought back in the third inning when Buxton hit his second home run of the game, this time traveling an impressive 418 feet to left-center. Miami maintained control, however, entering the fourth inning with a 4-2 advantage. The fourth inning proved crucial for the Marlins, as they mounted a massive rally. Mack singled to center, scoring Jiménez, then Edwards doubled to left, scoring Caissie. Hicks followed with a clutch single that plated two more runs, extending Miami's lead to 8-2.
Twins Make Late Push But Marlins Prevail 9-5
Although Minnesota narrowed the gap with a two-run double from Bell in the fifth inning, making the score 8-4, Miami's lead proved too large to overcome. The Marlins added another run in the sixth inning when Edwards scored on a fielder's choice, pushing their advantage to 9-4. In the eighth inning, Clemens hit a solo home run for Minnesota, traveling 419 feet to right-center field, but it only made the final score 9-5. When the final out was recorded, Miami had secured a commanding victory with nine runs on eleven hits. The Twins, meanwhile, managed only five runs on eight hits despite Buxton's two impressive home runs. This win improved the Marlins' record to 20-23 while dropping the Twins to 19-24. Both teams remain competitive in their respective divisions as the season continues.
