Mets Strike First in Fast-Paced Battle
The Marlins came into Friday night looking for their first win after dropping three straight. The Mets hosted them at home in New York, hungry for their second win in a row. These teams had just battled in Miami all week. The Mets lost badly, falling 4-0 and 4-1 in the first two games. Then they bounced back with a 1-2 loss on Thursday. Tonight, the score would flip. The Mets exploded early with four runs in the first inning alone. A.J. Ewing smashed a sweeper into center field, and two runs scored instantly. Brett Baty followed with a single to right that brought two more home. The Mets led 4-0 before Miami even recorded an out. The Marlins trailed early but stayed sharp and ready to strike back.
Miami Fights Back with Explosive Middle Innings
The Marlins didn't give up when trailing big. Xavier Edwards ripped a triple down the right line in the third inning, and Owen Caissie scored to cut the lead. Then Mark Vientos smashed a fastball over the left-center wall for a two-run bomb. Suddenly Miami was back in the game. Jakob Marsee doubled down the line, and Kyle Stowers scored. The Marlins kept charging. In the fourth inning, a throwing error by the Mets catcher let another run cross. Otto Lopez hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh to push Miami ahead 5-6. The Marlins' lineup was heating up fast. Stowers and Edwards were dangerous all night. Kyle Stowers went three-for-five with a hit in two at-bats. The game stayed close throughout, with neither team pulling away.
Mets Win in Extra Innings with Late-Game Drama
The game stayed tied at 7-7 heading into the eighth inning. Owen Caissie blasted a two-run homer that rocketed over the right-center wall to give Miami the lead. You could feel the energy shift. But the Mets weren't done fighting. In the bottom of the seventh, MJ Melendez lifted a sacrifice fly to left to tie it again. Then in the tenth inning, Melendez came through with the biggest swing of the night. He crushed a fastball over the right field wall with a runner on base. The ball disappeared into the night sky, and the crowd erupted. The Mets won 9-7 with that two-run homer. Miami's three-game losing streak continued. The Mets improved to 25-33 and grabbed their second straight win. Pete Fairbanks took the loss for Miami, giving up two runs in extra innings.
