Marlins Limp In, Mets Strike First
The Miami Marlins came to Queens riding a tough five-game losing streak. They'd lost the night before 6-1 to the Mets, and things got worse fast. The Mets played at Citi Field in New York with fire in their eyes. Right off the bat, Carson Benge launched a bomb off John King's slider in the first inning. The ball soared 418 feet to center field and you could feel the energy shift. It was 0-1 in a heartbeat. The Marlins were already in trouble. Anthony Bender came in next, and Marcus Semien wasted no time. He crushed one 382 feet to left-center, scoring Vientos too. Suddenly it was 0-3 and the Mets were rolling. Miami needed something soon or this game would get out of hand fast.
Marlins Get One, Mets Pull Away
In the fourth inning, the Marlins finally got on the board. Owen Caissie ripped a double to left field, scoring Javier Sanoja from third. It was 1-3, not much but at least Miami was on the scoreboard. The Mets didn't care. That same inning, Calvin Faucher was pitching for Miami and things fell apart. Luis Torrens singled to right, bringing home Brett Baty and A.J. Ewing. Now it was 1-5. The Marlins' bullpen was getting shredded. By the sixth inning, the Mets had the game totally under control. Joshua White came in and walked Bo Bichette with the bases loaded, scoring Marcus Semien. Then Juan Soto stepped up and crushed a massive 433-foot bomb to right-center. The ball exploded off his bat. Four runs crossed home. It was 1-10 and completely over.
Game Over: Mets Cruise to Tenth Win
The Mets had completely taken over by the end. The scoreboard read 10-1 and there was nothing the Marlins could do to stop it. Juan Soto went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and one home run, proving why he's one of baseball's best. Marcus Semien was 2-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs of his own. The Mets improved to 26-33 on the season with a four-game winning streak going. This was huge for a team fighting to stay alive in the race. For Miami, it was their fifth straight loss. Their record dropped to 26-34 and things weren't looking good. The Marlins are struggling with injuries to key starters. Without them, their pitching staff can't keep up with teams like New York. Nolan McLean picked up the win for the Mets while David Peterson earned a save. It was a dominant performance start to finish.
