Miami Stuns Toronto Early with Otto Lopez
The Marlins rolled into Toronto looking to keep their winning streak alive. They came in hot at 26-29, riding four straight wins. The Blue Jays needed to bounce back after losing their last two games. The scoreboard at Rogers Centre showed 0-0 as Trey Yesavage took the mound for Toronto. But Miami struck first. In the top of the first inning, Otto Lopez stepped up with two outs. He launched a sacrifice fly to left field that was deep enough to score Xavier Edwards all the way from third. The ball hung in the air, and Edwards raced home. Miami led 1-0 before anyone could catch their breath. Early runs set the tone, and the Marlins felt that momentum building.
Marlins Explode in the Sixth Inning
The game stayed tight through the middle innings. Toronto got one back in the bottom of the fifth when Yohendrick Pinango singled to center, scoring Lenyn Sosa. The score was 2-1 Miami. But the sixth inning? That's when everything changed. Kyle Stowers doubled down the left field line, and Liam Hicks scored to make it 3-1. Then Javier Sanoja stepped to the plate. The left-handed slugger cranked a double to left field. Two runners crossed home plate. Marsee scored. Stowers scored. Suddenly the Marlins led 5-1. They kept their hitting sharp and didn't let up. Toronto answered back when Ernie Clement smacked a solo home run, cutting the lead to 5-2. But Miami's bats had taken over.
Marlins Close It Out in the Eighth
The eighth inning sealed Miami's victory. Kyle Stowers doubled to left again, putting runners in scoring position. Liam Hicks came around to score, extending the lead to 6-2. Jakob Marsee grounded out to third base, but that was enough to move a runner across home plate. Otto Lopez scored on the play. Now it was 7-2. Then Owen Caissie ripped a single to right field. Javier Sanoja sprinted home with the eighth run. The Marlins had pounded out hit after hit, and Toronto's pitching staff couldn't stop the bleeding. When the final out came, Miami had crushed the Blue Jays 8-2. The Marlins improved to 27-29 with this dominant road win. Toronto fell to 25-30 after the loss.
