Brewers Strike First, But Houston Answers Back
The Brewers came into Minute Maid Park in Houston looking to bounce back after losing the night before. They got off to a hot start in the first inning when Brice Turang reached base and then scored on a double by William Contreras. Milwaukee led 1–0 early. But Houston answered right back in the second. Jake Meyers slapped a line drive single to right, and Cam Smith raced home to tie it at 1–1. Then Jeremy Peña stepped up and crushed a 392-foot home run over the left field wall. The ball exploded off his bat and sailed deep into the Houston night. Suddenly the Astros led 3–1 and the momentum had completely flipped.
Jackson Chourio Keeps Brewers Alive in Fifth
Jackson Chourio kept the Brewers fighting in the fifth inning when he singled to center field, scoring Garrett Mitchell and moving Christian Yelich to second base. Milwaukee cut Houston's lead to 2–3. But the Astros' bats would not be stopped. In the bottom of the fifth, Taylor Trammell reached on an infield single, and Jeremy Peña scored from third. Then Isaac Paredes doubled down the left field line, and both Trammell and Christian Walker came racing home. The Astros were building their lead with every swing. Houston pulled further ahead, extending their advantage to 2–6. The Brewers' pitching staff was struggling to find answers.
Walker's Home Run Seals Houston's Victory
Christian Walker put the game completely out of reach in the eighth inning when he crushed a home run to right field that traveled 348 feet. The ball rocketed off his bat with so much force that it carried over everything in its path. Peña and Yordan Alvarez both scored on the blast, pushing Houston's lead to 2–9. The Brewers never recovered. When the final out was recorded, Houston walked away with a 9–2 victory at home. The Astros improved their record and are starting to find their rhythm. The Brewers fell to 34–22 and will need to regroup before their next contest. Pitcher Peter Lambert earned the win for Houston, and the Astros' bats proved too powerful on Saturday night.
