Cubs Beat Mets Behind Kelly's Big Home Run
The New York Mets traveled to Chicago hoping to bounce back after losing the first game of the series twelve to four. Freddy Peralta took the mound for the Mets to face Jameson Taillon of the Cubs. Although the Mets struck first when Vientos smashed a towering home run over left center field for four hundred thirty-four feet, the Cubs answered quickly. In the bottom of the second inning, Happ launched his own blast to center field, tying the game at one. The two teams remained deadlocked through the middle innings as both pitchers showed resilience on the mound. However, the Cubs' bats came alive in the sixth when Kelly delivered the knockout blow, crushing a three-run homer that sailed four hundred five feet. That blast put Chicago ahead for good in their eventual four to two victory, extending their winning streak to four games.
A Tense Battle Through the Middle Innings
After the first two innings exploded with back-to-back home runs, the game settled into a pitcher's duel. From the third through the fifth innings, both Peralta and Taillon locked in, shutting down the opposing lineups and preventing any runs from scoring. The Mets' offense struggled to find their rhythm against Chicago's starter, while the Cubs' hitters remained patient at the plate. During the sixth inning, everything changed dramatically for the Cubs. With runners already on base and two outs, Carson Kelly stepped up to face Mets relief pitching. Kelly's swing was pure, sending the ball screaming into left center field with tremendous exit velocity. The ball traveled four hundred five feet before clearing the wall, bringing two baserunners home along with himself for a three-run advantage.
Mets Rally Late But Cubs Hold Strong
The Cubs entered the eighth inning with a commanding three-run lead after Kelly's monster blast in the sixth. The Mets refused to quit despite being down, scratching out a run in the eighth inning when a throwing error by Cubs second baseman Hoerner allowed Bichette to score and Alvarez to reach first base safely. However, the Cubs answered back immediately with four more runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, putting the game completely out of reach. When the final out was recorded, the Cubs celebrated their four to two victory and extended their winning streak to four consecutive games. The Mets, meanwhile, fell to seven wins and fourteen losses on the season. This loss continued New York's difficult stretch, leaving them searching for answers offensively and looking ahead to the next opportunity to get back on track against their division rivals.
