Soto's Power Leads Mets to Early Blast
The Mets rolled into Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia ready to fight. After winning the night before, New York wanted to keep the momentum going against the Phillies. But the Phillies came in strong at 40-34, just trying to hold off the Mets' surge. Right away in the first inning, Juan Soto showed why he's one of baseball's best hitters. He crushed a fastball 386 feet into right field for a solo home run. Two batters later, A.J. Ewing doubled down the right-field line, and Jared Young raced home. The Mets had 2 runs before Philadelphia even stepped up to bat. The Phillies answered back quickly when Alec Bohm singled to right, scoring Trea Turner. But the Mets had drawn first blood and held their breath as the game moved forward.
Soto Strikes Again as Mets Build Their Lead
By the third inning, Juan Soto was on fire. Facing Aaron Nola again, he worked the count and then sent another rocket into right-center field. This one sailed 389 feet and cleared the wall for his second home run of the game. The Mets were up 3-1, and Soto was the star. Philadelphia wouldn't quit though. Alec Bohm doubled to right and Kyle Schwarber scored in the bottom of the third, cutting the lead to 3-2. The fourth inning brought more drama. Derek Hill singled to center, but a throwing error by A.J. Ewing let Bryson Stott score and Hill reach second base safely. The Phillies were creeping back into this game, and every run mattered now. The score stood tied at 3-3 heading into the critical middle innings.
Mets Explode Late, Hold Off Phillies Rally
The game stayed tied until the seventh inning when the Mets unleashed their power. Eric Wagaman singled to right, and Carson Benge raced home from second base. Just seconds later, Marcus Semien crushed a triple down the left-field line. Mark Vientos and Zack Short both scored on the play. Suddenly the Mets led 6-3. It felt like the game was over. The Phillies weren't finished fighting though. In the ninth inning, Justin Crawford singled to center and J.T. Realmuto came home to make it 6-4. Devin Williams threw hard for the Mets, striking out hitters when he needed to. The final out came, and the Mets walked away with the 6-4 victory. New York improved to 34-41 while Philadelphia fell to 40-35 with the loss.
