Cubs Dominate Phillies in Chicago Shootout
The Philadelphia Phillies traveled to Chicago on Tuesday, April 21 to face the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Philadelphia brought one of baseball's most impressive pitching staffs, led by ace Zack Wheeler and featuring talented arms like Jesús Luzardo and Aaron Nola. However, the Cubs proved too strong on this night, winning decisively 7–4. The game featured exciting moments from both teams, with several powerful home runs lighting up the scoreboard. Although the Phillies battled hard throughout the contest, the Cubs' hot streak continued as they improved to 14–9 on the season. This marked another tough loss for Philadelphia, who fell to 8–15 after struggling through recent games. Despite their talented roster and deep pitching rotation, the Phillies couldn't contain Chicago's explosive offense on this Tuesday evening at the Cubs' home stadium.
Cubs Strike Early, Late Offense Decides Game
In the early innings, both teams played tight defense and kept runs off the board. The Cubs broke through first in the fifth inning when Ballesteros walked and Happ scored, giving Chicago a 1–0 lead. Meanwhile, the Phillies answered back in the sixth with a powerful blast. Kyle Schwarber connected for a home run, driving the ball 386 feet to right-center field at 98 miles per hour exit velocity, tying the game 1–1. Chicago quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Busch singled to center, allowing both Happ and Hoerner to score, making it 3–1 Cubs. The game remained competitive through six innings, but momentum was clearly shifting toward the home team as Chicago's bats came alive.
Cubs Explode Late, Seal Victory Over Struggling Phillies
The seventh inning became the turning point as Chicago's offense erupted. Hoerner homered to left field for 371 feet, extending the Cubs' lead to 4–1. Then Seiji Suzuki crushed an even longer blast, launching a 441-foot home run to left with an exit velocity of 110 miles per hour, scoring Bregman and pushing the lead to 6–1. The Phillies didn't quit, though. In the eighth inning, Bryce Harper blasted a 406-foot home run to center, bringing Schwarber home and cutting Chicago's advantage to 6–3. However, wild pitches by Jose Alvarado in the eighth allowed the Cubs to score again, making it 7–3. Philadelphia managed one final run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Bohm, but it wasn't enough. The Cubs held on to win 7–4, extending their winning streak and dealing another loss to the struggling Phillies.
