Philadelphia Strikes First on Alec Bohm's Early Blast
The Phillies rolled into Los Angeles looking to bounce back. The night before, they'd fallen 4-2 to the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. Now they had another shot. Jesus Luzardo took the mound for Philadelphia, ready to slow down one of baseball's most dangerous lineups. The Dodgers came in hot with a 38-21 record. But the Phillies had other plans. In the second inning, Alec Bohm stepped up against Roki Sasaki. Bohm connected hard. The ball rocketed to center field and cleared the wall at 406 feet. One swing, one run, and Philadelphia led 1-0. The Phillies' offense had announced itself early. They were not here to roll over.
The Dodgers Answer Back with Help from Alex Call
The Dodgers were not going to stay quiet for long. In the bottom of the second, Alex Call stepped up against Luzardo. Call saw an 88 mph changeup and ripped it to center. The ball found the grass for a single. Will Smith scored all the way from third, and suddenly it was tied 1-1. Then in the fourth inning, Santiago Espinal came through with a sacrifice fly to center. Alex Call scored this time, giving Los Angeles a 2-1 lead. The Dodgers knew how to respond. By the fourth inning, they'd taken control. The Phillies had been fast out of the gate, but Los Angeles' experience showed. Roki Sasaki was throwing well, keeping Philadelphia's bats quiet.
Harper and Sosa Deliver Late Magic for Philadelphia Victory
The game was tight heading into the eighth inning. The Dodgers led 3-1, but the Phillies were not done fighting. Tanner Scott took the mound for Los Angeles. Bryce Harper stepped up and smacked a single to right field. Justin Crawford scored on the hit, making it 3-2. Then Edmundo Sosa came through with a massive moment. Sosa hammered a 96 mph fastball to left center. The ball flew 379 feet. Two runs scored on the blast. The Phillies suddenly led 4-3. Jhoan Duran came out for the save and closed the door. Philadelphia escaped with a stunning 4-3 victory. The Phillies improved to 30-29 on the road, while the Dodgers fell to 38-22 at home.
