Pittsburgh's Bats Wake Up Early
The Pirates came to Toronto hungry after losing the night before, 5-2. They were ready to make noise at Rogers Centre. Mitch Keller took the mound for Pittsburgh with a sharp arm and steady control. But Toronto's Dylan Cease couldn't find his rhythm early. Spencer Horwitz stepped up in the first inning and crushed a fastball to right field. The ball sailed over the wall β 1-0 Pirates. One inning later, Oneil Cruz got his chance. He saw an 87-mile-per-hour slider and didn't miss. The massive 6-foot-7 slugger rocketed it to right for another home run β 2-0 Pirates. The Blue Jays were already in trouble. Keller pitched like a machine, striking out five batters through six innings. Pittsburgh's bats had grabbed control before Toronto even knew what hit them.
Keller Dominates While Toronto Scratches Back
Mitch Keller was unstoppable on the mound for Pittsburgh. He threw six innings of brilliant baseball, giving up just four hits and striking out five batters. The Blue Jays finally got on the board in the fourth inning when Ernie Clement singled to left. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. came around to score β 2-1 Pirates. The damage could have been worse, but Keller kept grinding through every inning. You could see his confidence growing with each pitch. Toronto's bats stayed quiet and couldn't find any real momentum. The Pirates stayed patient at the plate, waiting for their chances. By the sixth inning, Pittsburgh was about to strike again. Cease had already thrown a lot of pitches and looked tired. The Pirates were ready to pounce on any mistakes he made.
Pirates Close It Out With Late Explosion
The Pirates weren't done scoring yet. In the sixth inning, Chase Lee came in for Toronto, but he couldn't stop Pittsburgh's bats. Esmerlyn Valdez crushed a sweeper pitch that sailed 345 feet over the right field wall. Endy Rodriguez scored on the blast β 4-1 Pirates. That was the dagger. The Blue Jays tried to mount a comeback, but Pittsburgh's bullpen shut the door. Yohan Ramirez threw 0.1 innings without trouble. Mason Montgomery struck out two batters in 1.2 innings of perfect relief. Gregory Soto saved the game by recording one strikeout. When the final out came, the Pirates had won 4-1. Pittsburgh improved to 27-26 and grabbed a win on the road. Toronto fell to 25-28. The Pirates' powerful bats and Keller's brilliant arm made the difference. That's how you bounce back after a tough loss.
