Angels Strike Fast Behind Home Run Barrage
The Rangers came into Saturday night's game at Angel Stadium looking to bounce back after losing the night before. Texas sat at 24-26 on the season, while the Angels were struggling at 18-34. But from the moment the game started, Los Angeles had other plans. Zach Neto led off the bottom of the first inning against Rangers starter Jacob deGrom and crushed a fastball 398 feet into left field for a solo home run. The crowd roared. Two outs later, Wade Meckler stepped up and launched a 403-foot bomb to right-center that scored two more runners. Just like that, the Angels led 4-0 before Texas even got a bat in their hands. This was going to be a long night for Dallas.
Rangers Battle Back With Power Shots
Texas wasn't ready to pack it in. In the top of the fourth inning, Brandon Nimmo answered back hard. He launched a 436-foot fastball from Angels pitcher Grayson Rodriguez straight to center field. The ball sailed over the wall and Nimmo rounded the bases with a solo home run. Two batters later, Evan Carter ripped a ball to center and stretched it into a triple, scoring both Jake Burger and Justin Foscue on the same play. Suddenly the Rangers had clawed back to 4-3. In the sixth inning, Foscue singled to left and scored Burger again. The game was tightening up fast. These Rangers weren't backing down despite the early onslaught.
Angels Pull Away Late to Seal Victory
The Angels wouldn't let Texas get any closer. In the bottom of the seventh, Oswald Peraza muscled a fastball 418 feet to left-center for a solo home run. Then in the eighth inning, things got really bad for the Rangers. Zach Neto stepped back up and blasted another home run, this one traveling 427 feet to left-center. Nolan Schanuel followed with a single to right that scored Mike Trout. The Angels were pulling away. In the top of the ninth, Danny Jansen hit a late home run for Texas, but it was too little, too late. The Angels won 9-6 and improved to 18-34. The Rangers fell to 24-26. Los Angeles had used power hitting throughout the night to outlast Texas in a back-and-forth game.
