Angels Strike First with Trout's Early Blast
The Rangers came to Angel Stadium looking to bounce back. They'd lost the night before, dropping a 6-9 decision in a wild game. Texas needed to tighten things up fast. But Los Angeles had other ideas.
Mike Trout stepped up to face Nathan Eovaldi in the very first inning. Eovaldi wound up and threw a fastball looking for the strike zone. Trout connected with perfect timing. The ball rocketed toward center field and kept climbing higher and higher. It sailed 411 feet and cleared the wall with authority. Trout pumped his fist as he rounded the bases. Zach Neto had scored ahead of him. Just like that, the Angels led 2-0 before Texas could even take a swing. The home crowd was already roaring.
Texas Fights Back, But LA Pulls Ahead Late
The Rangers couldn't let the Angels run away with this one. In the second inning, Alejandro Osuna led off with a single. He made it to third base. Then Ezequiel Duran stepped up with the bases in play. He hit a sacrifice fly to center field. Osuna tagged up and raced home. Texas was on the board now, trailing 1-2.
But Los Angeles kept pushing. In the fifth, Nolan Schanuel doubled to right field. Neto scored easily on the hit. The Angels extended their lead to 1-3. The game stayed tight through the middle innings. Then came the seventh. Kyle Higashioka crushed a fastball from Ryan Zeferjahn. The ball exploded off his bat and soared 395 feet to center. One swing brought Texas within one run at 2-3. The Rangers had life. They were still fighting hard.
Angels Close Strong to Seal the Victory
The eighth inning belonged to the Angels. Oswald Peraza stepped in with Texas pitching Tyler Alexander. Peraza ripped a single to left field. Jo Adell and Jorge Soler came racing home. Peraza slid into second base. The Angels had exploded. Just like that, the score was 2-5. The Rangers had no answer left.
Kirby Yates took the mound in the ninth for Los Angeles. The veteran closer locked it down. No Rangers scored. No chance to rally. Final score: Angels 5, Rangers 2. Los Angeles improved to 20-34 with this victory, snapping some recent struggles. Texas fell to 24-28. The Rangers had gotten close, but the Angels' middle innings and strong bullpen were simply better. This loss sent Texas home needing to refocus before the next series began.
