Blue Jays Visit Baltimore After Tight Win
The Toronto Blue Jays rolled into Camden Yards looking sharp. They'd just beaten the Orioles 2-1 the night before and were riding a four-game winning streak. Their bats were hot, their pitching was steady, and they wanted to keep the momentum rolling. The Baltimore Orioles, sitting at 26-32, needed a big game at home. They'd dropped their last two contests and were hungry to bounce back in front of their fans. This game would test both teams' hunger and heart. You could feel the energy building as the Blue Jays and Orioles took the field on this Friday night. Toronto's lineup featured superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who'd been driving in runs all season. Baltimore countered with young gun Jackson Holliday and slugger Pete Alonso. By the final out, Toronto's bats had won the day—the Blue Jays took this one 6-5 in a back-and-forth battle.
Orioles Attack Early, Blue Jays Fire Back
Baltimore struck first and struck hard. In the bottom of the third inning, Adley Rutschman drew a walk and the bases loaded up. Samuel Basallo stepped up and lifted a sacrifice fly to center field. The ball floated out there and Ward scored easily. It was 1-0 Orioles. Then Jackson Holliday crushed a fastball 406 feet into right field for a solo home run. Just like that, Baltimore led 3-0. The fourth inning got uglier. Pete Alonso ripped a four-seam fastball 403 feet to right-center. Another home run. Basallo followed with his own blast to left-center—381 feet of pure power. The Orioles' bats were absolutely alive. They'd scored five runs and had Toronto reeling at 5-0 down. The Blue Jays' starter Austin Voth couldn't find the strike zone and couldn't slow the bleeding. But Toronto's best baseball was still ahead.
Toronto Erupts in Seventh, Holds On for Victory
Everything changed in the top of the seventh inning. Kazuma Okamoto stepped into the batter's box and connected with a pitch. The ball sailed 397 feet over the wall to left. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. came racing around the bases. Just like that, it was 5-2. But Toronto wasn't done. Charles McAdoo was next. He rocketed a fastball 369 feet to right-center. Daulton Varsho scored on the blast. Now it was 5-4. The momentum had completely shifted. In the eighth inning, the Blue Jays kept attacking. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. doubled to left field and both Ernie Clement and George Springer raced home. Toronto had scored six runs without slowing down. The final score was Toronto 6, Baltimore 5. The Blue Jays improved to 29-29 with this thrilling road victory. Baltimore dropped to 26-32 and fell further in the standings. Toronto's bats had spoken.
