Curtis Mead's Bomb Ignites the Battle
The Nationals came to Atlanta hungry. They had lost their last two games and needed a win. The Braves were rolling at 36-16, four games into a winning streak. Both teams took the field at Truist Park on Friday night. The energy was electric. In the sixth inning, Curtis Mead stepped up against Bryce Elder. Elder wound up and fired a 90 mph sinker. Mead connected hard. The ball rocketed toward left-center field—a towering shot that sailed 404 feet into the night sky. The ball cleared the wall with ease. Mead rounded the bases as the Nationals took the lead 1-0. His home run gave Washington hope. The young slugger had struck first blood.
Atlanta's Comeback Pushes It to Extra Innings
The Braves didn't panic. They came right back in the seventh inning. Mitchell Parker took the mound for Washington. He threw a 79 mph curve to Dominic Smith. Smith slapped it right, and Michael Harris II bolted home. Riley slid into third. Then Ha-Seong Kim came up with a bunt single to first. Riley scored on the play. Just like that, the game was tied 1-1. The momentum had shifted. The eighth inning brought more fireworks. CJ Abrams faced Robert Suarez's blazing 98 mph fastball. Abrams crushed it 405 feet to right-center field. Another home run. The Nationals led 2-2. The game kept building. Both offenses fired. The scoreboard kept changing. Neither team would surrender. We were headed somewhere special.
Tromp's Clutch Hit Delivers Atlanta Victory 5-4
The game extended to the tenth inning. Both teams were exhausted and determined. CJ Abrams came through again for Washington. He tripled to right, and both James Wood and another runner scored. The Nationals led 4-2. Atlanta was down to their final moments. But the Braves were built for this. In the bottom of the tenth, Chadwick Tromp stepped up. Orlando Ribalta threw a 96 mph fastball. Tromp made contact. The ball found center field for a single. Ha-Seong Kim raced home. Mauricio Dubon followed with an infield single. Tromp scored the tying run. The eleventh inning arrived. Paxton Schultz pitched for Washington. Again Tromp came up big. He singled to center. Eli White scored the winning run. Final score: Braves 5, Nationals 4. Atlanta improved to 36-16. Washington fell to 25-27. The Braves' winning streak continued at four games.
