The Nationals Strike Hard and Fast in the First
The Washington Nationals came to Cleveland looking to keep their winning streak alive. The Guardians hosted them at home, but they had no idea what was about to hit them. James Wood crushed the first pitch of the game into right-center field. The ball flew 412 feet and landed hard. Wood rounded the bases with a huge smile. Then Curtis Mead stepped up and did the same thing. His blast rocketed into left-center for 401 feet, and Luis Garcia Jr. scored ahead of him. The Nationals led 3-0 before Cleveland even got a chance to bat. In the second inning, Jacob Young hammered a cutter into left-center for 389 feet. Garcia Jr. followed with a scorching shot down the right line for 352 feet. Washington led 6-0 after just two innings of play. The Guardians' pitcher Tanner Bibee was getting hit hard.
Cleveland Fights Back But Washington Keeps Scoring
Rhys Hoskins answered back for Cleveland in the bottom of the second. He crushed a four-seam fastball 377 feet into left field. The Guardians were on the board with one run. But the Nationals kept swinging. In the third inning, CJ Abrams stepped into the batter's box and launched a sinker 403 feet to right. The Nationals extended their lead to 7-1. The Guardians added one more run in the fourth when Angel Martinez doubled down the left line, bringing Kyle Manzardo home. That made it 7-2. In the fifth inning, Curtis Mead came back up and hit another home run, this one 373 feet to left. Washington was crushing every pitcher Cleveland sent out there. The Nationals were running away with the game. Nothing could stop them.
The Nationals Close Out a Dominant Performance
Washington kept the pressure on in the sixth inning. Luis Garcia Jr. stepped up with runners on base. He singled hard to center field. Daylen Lile raced home to score. Jacob Young sprinted across the plate right behind him. The Nationals stretched their lead to 10-2. That was plenty of cushion. Zack Littell pitched seven strong innings for Washington, allowing just five hits and one earned run. He struck out seven batters. The young pitcher was brilliant on the mound. By the final out, the game was over. Washington's bats had done all the damage early. The Nationals improved to 28-27 with this win. Their winning streak now reached three games. Cleveland dropped to 32-24. The Guardians' pitching staff got shattered by the Washington lineup in one of the worst performances of their season.
