Nationals and Brewers, game overview
The Washington Nationals visited the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday, April 10 at the Brewers' home park. Washington wanted to show its young pitching could compete, while Milwaukee hoped to use strong arms in their rotation. The final score was Washington 7, Milwaukee 3, after a back-and-forth first inning and clutch late hits. Early fireworks set the tone: the Nationals scored two quick runs, then the Brewers answered with a three-run blast. Fans saw power and small-ball in the same game, because Washington kept battling and Milwaukee hit a big homer that changed the mood for a while.
How the early game unfolded
Washington struck first in the top of the first inning. Mead singled to center and Wood scored on a 102 mph hit, then Abrams doubled to drive in Mead. The Nationals led 2–0 after that quick start because they hit the ball hard and took advantage of a tough count. Milwaukee answered in the bottom of the first when Joey Votto ? Actually the Brewers' Bauers launched a three-run homer to right, clearing the bases and making it 3–2. That big shot came on a slider and it flipped the early game momentum while pitchers reset for the next innings.
Turning point and the final rally
The game stayed close until late innings when Washington pushed ahead in the ninth. Young tied the game with a seventh-inning double before the Brewers held on. In the ninth, García Jr. singled to score Abrams and make it 4–3, and then Washington used smart small-ball. Vivas laid down a sacrifice bunt that scored Wiemer and Milwaukee made a throwing error on the play. Millas followed with another sacrifice bunt to add a run, and Wood doubled to plate the final run. The Nationals won 7–3, and both teams left with lessons to build on.
