The middle innings changed the game in the seventh. Washington loaded the bases and Tena singled to score Young, making it 3–3. Mead followed with a single that scored Tena and pushed Wood to third, giving Washington a 4–3 lead. Then Wood stole home and Mead stole second, a daring play that made it 5–3. House added another run with a single to right, giving Washington a 6–3 lead. Milwaukee answered with Sánchez's three-run homer to tie it at 6. In the eighth, Ruiz singled in two runs and Washington held on to win 8–6 in a thrilling finish.
