Kings Visit Hawks in Lopsided Saturday Matchup
The Sacramento Kings arrive in Atlanta carrying the worst record in the Western Conference. With a 19-55 record, Sacramento has struggled all season because injuries wiped out its three best players. Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks sit at 41-33 and remain in the playoff conversation. This matchup feels uneven on paper, but basketball games don't always follow the script.
Sacramento's Season Fell Apart Quickly
Sacramento's season collapsed when Domantas Sabonis suffered a knee injury that required surgery, ending his year. Soon after, both Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan also went down with season-ending injuries. Losing three star players crushed any hope of competing. As a result, the front office shifted focus toward draft positioning rather than chasing wins this season.
Jalen Johnson Is Atlanta's New Franchise Star
Jalen Johnson has become the clear centerpiece of the Hawks' rebuild. The 22-year-old recently posted a triple-double with 29 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists against Miami, shooting 60 percent. Johnson's size, athleticism, and playmaking allow Atlanta to play a balanced style on both ends. Although the team hovers around .500, Johnson looks every bit like a legitimate franchise cornerstone.
Hawks Have Depth Advantages, Kings Eye the Draft
Atlanta also benefits from Dyson Daniels, one of the NBA's best perimeter defenders, who averaged about 2 steals per game. Kristaps Porzingis remains sidelined with injury, limiting Atlanta's frontcourt depth. For Sacramento, rookies like Maxime Raynaud are getting valuable experience because veterans have been shut down. While the Hawks push for a playoff spot, the Kings focus on the future.
