Pelicans Pull Off Road Upset in San Antonio
The New Orleans Pelicans shocked the second-place San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night, winning 104-95 on the road. Zion Williamson and Saddiq Bey became the hero duo, each putting up 24 points and 10 rebounds. The win was huge for a Pelicans team fighting through injuries all season.
Zion Powers the Attack
Zion looked unstoppable inside the paint. He bullied his way to the basket again and again. His powerful frame crashed through defenders like a freight train. Zion shot over 55 percent from the floor. He grabbed 10 rebounds and swatted away a shot on defense. His strength and speed were too much for San Antonio to handle.
Saddiq Bey matched Zion shot for shot. He drained jumpers from all over the court. Bey's 10 rebounds helped New Orleans control the glass. He also handed out four assists to keep teammates involved.
Defense Shuts Down the Spurs
The Pelicans turned up the defensive pressure in the second half. They held San Antonio to just 28 points in the third quarter. Herb Jones and Yves Missi protected the rim like guards at a castle gate. Jones added nine points while Missi grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked two shots.
Trey Murphy III played floor general for New Orleans. He dished out nine assists while scoring 17 points. His passing created open looks for everyone.
Wembanyama Can't Lift Spurs
Victor Wembanyama battled hard despite the loss. The towering center grabbed 16 rebounds and blocked four shots. His long arms altered shots all night like tree branches swatting at flies. But Wembanyama scored just 16 points on tough shooting.
De'Aaron Fox added 12 points and seven assists for San Antonio. Keldon Johnson chipped in 15 points, but it wasn't enough.
The Pelicans built their lead in the second and third quarters. They never let go, securing a big confidence-boosting victory.
