The Knicks marched into Chicago and escaped with a hard-fought 105-99 win on Sunday night. New York is proving they can win close battles as well as blowouts.
Towns Takes Over
Karl-Anthony Towns looked like a superhero in the paint. The big man poured in 28 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. He shot nearly 59 percent from the floor, hitting shots from everywhere. Towns also swiped three steals on defense. His hands were quick as lightning, jumping passing lanes and creating fast breaks. With every bucket, Towns showed why the Knicks are championship contenders.
Team Effort Seals Victory
Jalen Brunson ran the offense like a conductor leading an orchestra. The point guard scored 19 points and dished out nine assists. He played 37 minutes, finding open teammates and making smart decisions. Josh Hart stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. He shot an amazing 80 percent from the field.
Mikal Bridges added 11 points while playing lockdown defense. Landry Shamet caught fire off the bench, scoring 16 points on hot shooting.
Bulls Fight But Fall Short
Chicago kept the game close for three quarters. They led 53-52 at halftime and stayed within striking distance. Matas Buzelis led the Bulls with 15 points. Guerschon Yabusele battled on the boards with 13 rebounds and 11 points. Isaac Okoro and Jalen Smith each added 12 points before Smith left with a calf injury.
The Bulls played without Anfernee Simons, who sat out with a wrist injury. Jaden Ivey remained out with knee problems.
Knicks Roll On
New York outscored Chicago 22-21 in the final quarter. The Knicks clamped down defensively when it mattered most. At 37-21, they sit third in the Eastern Conference and look like they’ve bounced back from their rough patch earlier in the year.
