NFL Week 6 Power Rankings – The Top 16
The top half of the NFL is packed with contenders, but even the best teams are starting to show cracks. The Eagles and Bills both took their first losses, while the 49ers battled through injuries to stay strong.
16. Kansas City Chiefs (2-3)
The Chiefs lost another close one, falling 31-28 to the Jaguars in a Monday night thriller. Patrick Mahomes played well but threw a costly interception late, and the defense gave up too many big plays to Trevor Lawrence. Kansas City is uncharacteristically struggling to finish games, but help is on the way. Wide receiver Rashee Rice is expected to return in Week 7, giving Mahomes a much-needed boost.
15. Seattle Seahawks (3-2)
The Seahawks lost a heartbreaker at home, 38-35, to the Buccaneers. Sam Darnold threw three touchdowns, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a breakout game with over 130 yards, but the defense couldn’t make a stop late. Seattle’s new run-first offense is starting to click, but they need more consistency to stay in the NFC playoff race.
14. Minnesota Vikings (3-2)
The Vikings went to London and beat the Browns 21-17 in a wild finish. Carson Wentz led the game-winning drive, hitting Jordan Addison for the deciding touchdown. Justin Jefferson dominated again, and the defense made a key stop at the end. Minnesota has battled through close games all season, but their ability to finish is finally showing up.
13. Denver Broncos (3-2)
The Broncos stunned the Eagles 21-17 on the road in one of the biggest upsets of the week. Rookie quarterback Bo Nix led two fourth-quarter touchdown drives, showing poise well beyond his years. Running back J.K. Dobbins added 79 yards and a touchdown, while the defense came up clutch with a late stop. Denver’s improvement each week is impossible to ignore.
12. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1)
The Steelers had a bye in Week 5, but their strong start has them sitting comfortably in the AFC playoff picture. Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf have developed great chemistry, and the defense has been excellent against the run. Pittsburgh will look to stay sharp after the break as they prepare for a key divisional stretch.
11. Washington Commanders (3-2)
The Commanders dominated the Chargers 27-10, powered by quarterback Jayden Daniels’ steady play and rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt’s two touchdowns. Deebo Samuel added a score, and the defense made life difficult for Justin Herbert. Washington looks like one of the NFC’s biggest surprises so far and could keep climbing if Daniels keeps improving.
10. Los Angeles Rams (3-2)
The Rams lost a tough one, 26-23 in overtime to the 49ers. Matthew Stafford threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns, but two late fumbles by Kyren Williams hurt their chances. The offense is clearly strong, but ball security continues to be an issue. If they can clean that up, Los Angeles has the talent to get back in the top 10 soon.
9. Los Angeles Chargers (3-2)
The Chargers were upset 27-10 by Washington at home, marking their second straight loss. Justin Herbert struggled under heavy pressure, and the offense couldn’t find balance despite a solid game from rookie running back Omarion Hampton who was placed on injury reserve after the game.
8. Indianapolis Colts (4-1)
The Colts crushed the Raiders 40-6 in a complete team win. Daniel Jones threw two touchdowns, Jonathan Taylor ran for three more, and the defense completely shut down Las Vegas. Indianapolis looks like one of the AFC’s most balanced teams, with both the offensive line and defense performing at a high level.
7. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-1)
The Jaguars pulled off one of the biggest wins of the week, defeating the Chiefs 31-28 on Monday Night Football. Trevor Lawrence threw for 221 yards and three total touchdowns, while the defense came up big with a 99-yard pick-six. Jacksonville has now won four straight and looks like a serious AFC contender under new head coach Liam Cohen.
6. Green Bay Packers (2-1-1)
The Packers had a bye in Week 5, giving them a chance to rest and regroup after a strong start. Quarterback Jordan Love has shown great control of the offense, and running back Josh Jacobs has added power to the ground game. The defense has also been solid, keeping opponents under pressure. Green Bay will look to use the extra rest to stay sharp for the tough matchups ahead.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-1)
The Buccaneers edged out the Seahawks 38-35 in a high-scoring showdown. Baker Mayfield threw three touchdowns, rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka went over 100 yards, and Rachaad White added two scores on the ground. Tampa Bay’s offense looks explosive, and their chemistry keeps improving. The Bucs are showing they’re not just a good story, they’re a real NFC contender.
4. San Francisco 49ers (4-1)
The 49ers gutted out a 26-23 overtime win over the Rams despite multiple injuries. Mac Jones filled in for Brock Purdy and kept the offense steady, while Christian McCaffrey totaled 139 yards and a touchdown. The defense came up big with key stops in overtime. San Francisco continues to prove that no matter who’s hurt, they know how to win.
3. Detroit Lions (4-1)
The Lions roared past the Bengals 37-24 on Sunday night. Jared Goff threw three touchdowns, and tight end Sam LaPorta was unstoppable with 92 yards and two scores. The defense forced two takeaways, helping Detroit control the game from start to finish. The Lions are balanced, confident, and playing like one of the NFC’s best.
2. Buffalo Bills (4-1)
The Bills suffered their first loss of the season, falling 23-20 to the Patriots. Josh Allen threw for 253 yards and two touchdowns but made key mistakes late. Buffalo’s defense struggled on third downs, but this team is too talented to stay down for long. Expect the Bills to bounce back next week behind Allen’s leadership.
1. Philadelphia Eagles (4-1)
The Eagles also dropped their first game of the year, losing 21-17 at home to the Broncos. Jalen Hurts threw three touchdowns but also turned the ball over twice. The defense allowed too many big plays late, which cost them the win. Still, the Eagles remain the most complete team in football and will look to respond quickly after this wake-up call.
As we move past Week 5, every team in the top half knows there’s little room for error. The Chiefs are struggling to find their rhythm, the 49ers are grinding through injuries, and the Eagles and Bills are looking to rebound. Meanwhile, the Jaguars and Colts continue to rise, reminding everyone that the NFL’s power balance is always shifting.
