The Los Angeles Rams went on the road and pulled out a tough 20–17 win over the Chicago Bears in the NFC Divisional Round. What many expected to be a high-scoring game turned into a physical, defense-heavy fight decided late in the fourth quarter.
First Quarter: Fast Start, Early Mistake
Chicago opened the game moving the ball well. Caleb Williams led the Bears deep into Rams territory, mixing short passes and runs to keep the defense guessing. However, the drive ended suddenly when Williams threw an interception in the end zone, taking points off the board.
The Rams took advantage. Matthew Stafford settled into a steady rhythm and leaned on the running game. A long, methodical drive ended with Kyren Williams powering into the end zone for a rushing touchdown. Los Angeles led 7–0 after one quarter.
Second Quarter: Bears Answer, Rams Respond
Early in the second quarter, the Bears bounced back. Williams led a short drive and capped it with a touchdown pass to tie the game. Chicago’s defense then stepped up, forcing punts and keeping the Rams in check.
Late in the half, the Bears grabbed a 10–7 lead with a field goal. But Stafford answered before halftime. He moved the Rams into field-goal range in the final seconds, and Los Angeles knocked through a kick as time expired. The teams went into halftime tied 10–10.
Third Quarter: Defense Takes Over
The third quarter slowed to a grind. Both defenses controlled the line of scrimmage, and neither offense could find the end zone. Williams scrambled to extend plays, while Stafford relied on short throws and safe decisions.
The biggest moment came when Williams threw another interception, stopping a promising Chicago drive. Still, the Rams were unable to turn it into points. The score stayed tied heading into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter: Kyren Williams Makes the Difference
Early in the fourth quarter, the Rams finally broke through. Matthew Stafford led a long, steady drive, and Kyren Williams powered into the end zone for his second rushing touchdown. That score gave Los Angeles a 17–10 lead.
Chicago answered back. Caleb Williams stayed calm and led a late drive down the field. He finished it with a touchdown pass to tight end Cole Kmet, tying the game at 17–17 and sending the crowd into a frenzy. Regulation ended with the teams still locked together, forcing overtime.
In overtime, defense mattered most. The Bears had a chance to win, but Williams threw an interception that stopped their drive. The Rams took over and played it safe, running the ball and picking up just enough yards to move into field goal range.
Los Angeles kicker Harrison Mevis nailed the game-winning field goal, ending the game and giving the Rams a 20–17 overtime win. Chicago ran out of chances, and the Rams walked off with a hard-fought playoff victory.
What It Means
Kyren Williams’ two touchdowns and ball control helped the Rams survive on the road. Stafford avoided big mistakes and trusted his defense.
For Chicago, the loss stings, but the experience matters. Caleb Williams showed flashes of growth, even though turnovers proved costly. The Bears’ season ends, but their young core gained valuable playoff lessons.
The Rams move on to face the Seahawks, proving once again that in the playoffs, tough defense and smart football can win the day.
