Ravens Soar Past Browns 23-16 Behind Henry's Power and Andrews' Magic
The Baltimore Ravens (4-5) traveled to Cleveland to face the struggling Browns (2-7) in a crucial AFC North showdown. The Ravens desperately needed a victory to keep their playoff hopes alive, while the Browns were fighting to avoid falling deeper into their disappointing season.
First Quarter: Field Goals and Fumbles
The game started with both teams feeling each other out. Baltimore struck first when Lamar Jackson led a methodical drive deep into Cleveland territory. The Ravens had to settle for a 25-yard field goal by Tucker Loop after getting stopped near the goal line. Cleveland answered right back with their own impressive drive. Rookie running back Quinshon Judkins powered the Browns down the field with strong runs, and they tied the game 3-3 on a 30-yard field goal by Szmyt.
Second Quarter: Turnovers Change Everything
The second quarter became a wild ride of momentum swings. Cleveland caught a huge break when Ravens return specialist LaJohntay Wester fumbled a punt, giving the Browns excellent field position at Baltimore's 6-yard line. The Browns capitalized with another field goal to take a 6-3 lead.
Then disaster struck for Baltimore. Jackson threw an interception to Browns defender Bush, who returned it 23 yards for a touchdown! Cleveland suddenly led 13-3 and the Ravens looked stunned.
But champions respond to adversity. Jackson found his favorite target Zay Flowers for a spectacular 45-yard bomb down the right sideline. The play set up Derrick Henry's powerful 1-yard touchdown run, cutting the deficit to 13-10. Cleveland managed one more field goal before halftime, taking a 16-10 lead into the locker room.
Third Quarter: Defense Takes Center Stage
The third quarter belonged to the defenses. Both teams struggled to move the ball consistently. Cleveland made a quarterback change, bringing in rookie Shedeur Sanders to replace Dillon Gabriel. However, Sanders threw an interception to Ravens defender Wiggins, giving Baltimore great field position.
Jackson also had his struggles, throwing another interception to Browns linebacker Schwesinger. The quarter featured multiple three-and-out drives as both offenses sputtered. The biggest play came when Henry broke free for a massive 59-yard run, setting up Baltimore in the red zone as the quarter ended.
Fourth Quarter: Ravens Pull Away
Baltimore capitalized on Henry's big run with a field goal early in the fourth quarter, making it 16-13. The Ravens' balanced attack started clicking as Jackson found his rhythm again. He connected with Flowers for key completions and Mitchell provided spark plays out of the backfield.
The game's most memorable moment came with Baltimore leading 19-16. The Ravens lined up for what looked like a regular play, but instead snapped the ball directly to tight end Mark Andrews! The veteran tight end took the direct snap and raced 35 yards around the right end for a touchdown, fooling everyone in the stadium. The creative play call sealed the victory at 23-16.
Sanders tried to rally Cleveland in the final minutes, connecting with Harold Fannin Jr. for a 25-yard gain. But the Ravens' defense held strong when it mattered most.
Looking Ahead
This victory moves Baltimore to 5-5 and keeps their playoff dreams alive in a competitive AFC. Henry's 103 rushing yards and Andrews' magical touchdown run showcased the Ravens' offensive creativity. The win puts them on a four-game winning streak as they continue their push toward the postseason.
For Cleveland, the loss drops them to 2-8 and extends their losing streak to three games. Despite solid efforts from Judkins (59 rushing yards) and flashes from Sanders, the Browns' season continues to slip away.
Baltimore will look to extend their winning streak in their next matchup, while Cleveland must regroup and focus on developing their young talent for the remainder of the season.
